The nice thing about fandom is that it has made me confident that every single one of my brainworm ships are always canon even if the people who wrote the characters don't realize it. Bc I know better than they do

Rereading the last chapter again because I'm going to build off of it for a fic, and oh my god. The love, the understanding, the fucking tension between Murtagh and Nasuada. All these things they won't say because that leads to annother conversation neither is ready for. She wants him to just be arround her, no real reason other than its him and he will stay for her . And just all these little ways they tell each other they love the other without saying those words because again that's annother conversation.
And what about when they have that conversation? Nasuada needs to marry and have an heir for the crowns stability. And in and ideal world she would marry Murtagh because he doesn't aspire to power, and more importantly they love each other. But its not an ideal world. He's a traitor nobody trusts except for her.
And then, there is also his immortality. Nasuada will grow old. She will die. Any children they have will do the same. And their grandchildren. And Murtagh will be an ageless immortal. He will have to watch that happen. And she will have to live with him stating the same (Also I've suddenly been reminded of a ASOIAF fic that explored this theme. I will have to reread it, that was so damn good)
Also they touch each other five times in the chapter, and she initiates all but one of them. Which like yes. I am a shipper. But Murtagh is not a touchy feely guy. And he lets it happen and notes the absence of her touch as much as its presence. And Nasuada probably doesn't get much of the casual human touch, that physical intimacy as Queen. And certainly not from somone who is her equal.
Anyway hi yes, I have brainrot for these two again.
Also Thorn ships it
Its simple you put two survivors of abuse in a fantastical world in which they learn from each other and grow with each other and overcome their trauma together and had they never met they wouldnt have been able to do it but bc they met and fell in love they are all the better for it they give me brainworms
Sometimes i remember that murtagh was obsessed with nasuada from the moment he laid eyes on her and she mourned him when she thought he died and she was tortured with a vision that they were married with four children and it was ripped away from her and his true name changed because he fell so deeply in love with her and if they loved each other less they may be able to talk about it more and im hours away from cracking open murtagh again and reading all 2000000 pages because their love for each other is intertwined and unbreakable and a life without the other is no life worth living etc etc etc
Just started reading murtagh and literally page 2 we get a taste of murtada?! christopher knows his audience omfg
I've finished reading Murtagh, and oh my god. 14 year old me was fed and fed well today. I had so much fun, it was just breathtaking for me. I'm going to stick some spoilers under the cut
Murtada as a ship still sailing after all this time? I'm so in love. Like I said 14 year old me was fed and fed well, and a lot of that has to do with my precious ship. I love them so much. Stay tuned for me writing the fic I've had banging around in my head since inheritance came out.
The deepening of the lore to include some Eldritch beings was interesting, and I'm really eager to see where that goes. TIC always had a very hard magic system and adding some more esoteric, less explained phenomenon is interesting!
The contrast between Murtagh and Eragon is fascinating. They really are the inverse of one another, but have struggles that parallel. also how much Paolinis writing has evolved since inheritance means that Murtagh felt like a much more relatable and engaging character, as does Thorn
And on Thorn, I loved the angle with his PTSD! It's hard to make an all powerful being struggle, but having that struggle be his own mind was excellent. It was only after the scene where he rescued Murtagh in Gilead that I picked up what was going on. a Dragon just had a panic attack, and as someone who also has panic attacks that felt pretty empowering
Another thing was Murtagh getting all these moments of character development and healing from helping children. I loved that, it felt a little heavy handed, but it also felt very right that this man who has been traumatized basically since birth finds a sense of purpose and healing from helping kids and seeing healthy familial relationships
Mostly, I just want more! I want to delve into the mystery of the Dreamers, and more murtada please let them kissss
Ik ive said this before but my 3 hyperfixation obsession ships (hellcheer, caryl, murtada) all have such similar dynamics and I Have A Type and despite the fact that im bi and all 3 of them are straight ships idc lol
The formula is APPARENTLY 2 survivors of trauma and abuse finding hope and resilience and comfort in the other, under otherwise hopeless and terrifying supernatural/fantastical circumstances, and that those circumstances and relationships force them to recognize and overcome their shortcomings and they wouldnt have If Not For Each Other And The Horrors, and that so much of those relationships are based on subtext, which gives the relationships/the characters more depth and complexity and lends more realism and credence to the characters and relationship and how they benefit from the relationship
And also all 3 of those ships are literally canon lmao, granted hellcheer wasnt explicitly canon in the show BUT subtext and the actors and showrunners/creators/writers have all confirmed its canon soooooooo im counting that lmao
Okay so for nasuada and murtagh its "you know why" and for chrissy and eddie its "this is for you chrissy" and for daryl and carol its "we have a future" like holy shit these mean and angry men are so fucking soft for their women
