Random Future Diary Headcanons
I’ve probably posted some of these before, but I don’t think I’ve posted all of them, so here are a pair of my personal headcanons for the series... particularly what happens AFTER the whole thing is over.
Observation: Murmur #1 is awfully comfortable with screwing over Second-World Deus in favor of furthering Yuno’s interests... despite the fact that she spent a damn lifetime living under the care of Deus in the First World. Dang, where’s the loyalty? However, in spite of this act of rebellion against her long-time caretaker, it doesn’t appear that such rebelliousness is inherent to her nature: Murmur #2 never tries to rebel against Yuki as he sits and floats in a void of nothingness for eons, boring her to no end. In fact, she states that she’s grown rather fond of him.
Headcanon: I believe that The Murmurs (by the end, there are a bunch of them running around) is/are somehow designed/built to be inherently loyal to the current ‘Space-Time’ God of her native reality. This explains why Murmur #1 is instantly loyal to Yuno when Deus #1 passes and completely capable of working against Deus #2 when she takes her Second-World equivalent’s place. This also explains why Murmur #2 is loyal to Yuki for years upon years - in spite of her frustrations with him.
Observation: The anime and manga diverge from one another in the finale in a way that seems diametrically opposed to one another.
In the manga, Yuno officially accepts the title of God(dess) of Space and Time in the Third World, and she and Yuki (still God of Space/Time in the Second World) soon reunite. The ending shows them in a co-god relationship, watching over the Third World. It’s implied that Yuki will reunite with the Third-World versions of his lost friends, too.
Meanwhile, in the anime, Deus implies that Yuno may be the one who is worthy of taking his place in the Third World. However, we don’t see her officially get the job — instead, after we see her reunite with Yuki, she stays in the Second World. The ending shows them in a co-god relationship as they start to rebuild life within the void that the Second World has become.
Headcanon: Both are true. Yuno is the official goddess of the Third World, and Yuki is still the official god of the Second. Because Yuno destroyed the wall between realities in her efforts to reunite with Yuki (an act that occurs in both the manga AND the anime), they can travel between both worlds — developing the second from nothing while simultaneously maintaining the third. Whenever they are absent from one world, they can share their powers with the army of Murmurs, allowing them to handle the load. (After all, we’ve seen Deus successfully share just part of his power before.) And you know that they can trust the 100 Murmurs of each world to do as they ask based on my previous headcanon!
