The downpour had caught them unawares. Kaoru had told him it was going to storm, and that he should bring an umbrella, but the weather had seemed nice enough earlier. So he’d scoffed, of course. And now there was lightning, on top of everything. It didn’t scare him though, far from it. He found the display incredible, though inconvenient
“It does! It’s little wonder that powerful gods were associated with it.” Divine retribution, if you believed in that kind of thing. No doubt Kaoru could explain the entire how and why of the sciency part of it, if he’d cared enough to ask. He recalled something about positive and negative charges. “Well, whoever it was, it wasn’t me. Tch, and I wanted to skate today.”
“I can see that.” If there was one word that came to mind when describing the other boy, it would be dramatic. Well, at least he could enjoy the flashy show while it lasted, even if he’d rather be on his board with the wind in his hair. “I don’t have the patience to sit through plays, but I can’t fault you liking that sort of thing, given that my idea of fun is poking around a kitchen.”

The Kaoru Face tm
Headcanon: Joe lives in a traditional style home, similar to Reki’s but not as big. It’s a few blocks away from Sia, giving him an easy commute to work. He’s got a small garden full of useful kitchen herbs that he uses at the restaurant, and low maintenance veggies like tomatoes. The decor is a mix of island and Mediterranean vibes.
He’s got a pair of traditional red shisa at the front, but also a pair of ones like this in green and pink that he and Kaoru picked up on Kakusai-Dori when they were in school.

“Might be,” he agreed cheerfully. “Or it could be that you bit off more than you can chew with that move.” Eating pavement wasn’t always divine retribution. Sometimes it was just plain Bad Life Choices.
