‘it doesn’t really work that way.’ midam’s eyes traveled between her glass of beer and the other sitting across from her, ‘i’m a gumiho. not a genie. i can’t grant you any kind of wish or whatever it is you want.’ people always thought they had an understanding of her species when in reality they didn’t know anything about her, ‘i can’t just snap my fingers and grant you good luck. do you know how that myth got started? in the past when someone helped a gumiho they’d give them one of their tails as a reward. tails are like lives for gumihos, the more you give away, the less magic you have. the shorter your life span becomes.’ midam takes a long sip of her drink. she was going to need something stronger if this conversation continued, ‘you’re not getting one of my tails.’
