Angel is Dead (Canon)(So Rhys doesn’t learn about Angel until after her death. As she was Jack’s biggest secret.)
Everyone on Hyperion knew that Handsome Jack had secrets. It was a game with some of the lower employees to try to hack into the systems to find out what one of them was. Rhys played too, after he got his ECHO-Eye. He never told anyone what he saw or found, instead just saying that Jack had a Guardian Angel. The image of wing were burned into his mind and dreams for years.
Rhys first learned Angel’s name from the AI Jack, but he didn’t get a lot of information from him. The AI told him as few details as he could, but Rhys could put the pieces together himself.
After the Vault of the Traveler mess, Rhys bought a bunch of sites from the remaining Hyperion executives, including the site that housed BNK3R. Stripping the area allowed him access to the Control Core. Seeing the set up, Rhys set his R&D department on crafting a vaccine/cute for Eridium Poisoning.
Rhys has a small photo was Angel sitting on a small shelf in his private rooms, sitting right now to the ECHO-Eye that houses the AI Jack. He couldn’t reunite her with him, but he could at least give him that.
AU - Angel Lives(An AU where after the Vault Hunters attack BNK3R, all of Hyperion is made aware of Angel and her location. Rhys travels to Pandora, thinking with his hacker know-how he can help Jack and get the upper hand on the murderous Vault Hunters… He finds Angel (who is barely breathing) instead)
Rhys hates that it took nearly an hour to break into the Control Core, and blames himself for not getting to Angel sooner.
While he knows taking Angel anywhere but Helios is dangerous, he also knows the medical facilities aren’t the best. So he takes her to a doctor on Promethea instead.
It cost him far more money than he would ever tell anyone to sneak a very obvious Siren off Pandora, when Handsome Jack had eyes everywhere. Rhys isn’t proud of the few bodies he had to hide either.
Rhys set up working on projects on the side while the doctors tended to Angel, eventually Rhys would start to pile his ideas together. It was a young coffee worker who suggested he go and see the Atlas president, who wasn’t doing so well.
Rhys is given a job the moment his first blueprint hit the president’s desk. Days later, Rhys is given the keys and wished ‘Good Luck’ as the man fled the planet.
Once Angel awoke and was clear of the Eridium that was wrecking her small body, Rhys moved her into the penthouse of the Atlas building. He promised her he’d keep her away from Jack for as long as she wished him to.
Rhys became the CEO of Atlas, discontinued the remaining Crimson Lance maneuvers on other worlds and returned all of Promethea’s people home. These actions gained him support from several higher ups in the Lance, who became his generals and protectors. His most notable one being a woman named Athena, who arrived on Promethea to see if the rumors were true.
For all the people of Atlas, Angel was Rhys’s daughter. Many started calling her Princess Angel. Rhys ended up buying her a small hair clip in the shape of a crown.
