“Damn it,” Peter cursed under his breath, knowing that the last of the flash lights in the home were probably also drained of power. It had been a long time since there’d been a storm that had captured the city and caused such an outage. “I found one!” Aunt May exclaimed from the other room, catching Peter’s interest before he rounded the corner in the home and saw a faint glow of a flashlight in his direction. Even in the darkness, he could see that his aunt was relishing in the fact they had one working light. “No candles though, right?” Peter asked her curiously, frowning as the woman shook her head. “It shouldn’t be out too long, right? I mean, the city’s pretty good at fixing these things in a timely manner?” Peter was a little worried because less light sometimes meant more trouble. The last thing New York City needed was more trouble. Besides, he couldn’t possibly go chasing bad guys around in the darkness of the streets. “Hey, I can go grab us a few things at the store? Some batteries, at least.” Aunt May was about to protest but Peter was already reaching for his keys to the home and spun on his heel to give her a small wave. “I promise I’ll make it quick. Don’t worry too much about me.” It wasn’t like his aunt knew about his super powers though. Strolling through the city, he bumped shoulders with a familiar blonde, so focused on where he needed to be that he hadn’t noticed it was Caroline. The sound of her voice caught him off guard though as he spun to face her. “Oh, I’m so sorry! I promised my aunt May that I’d get some things and I wasn’t really paying attention...” He trailed off, a little ramble because the blonde always made him nervous. It was definitely nice to bump into a friendly familiar face though. “Well, if you’re the master at picking out candles, how could I say no to your company?” He laughed a little, lips etching into a warm grin. “It’s probably better if we stick together anyway. You know, the buddy system.”
