The Same
TW: Drowning
The same screams for help in an empty place.
The same cold and empty atmosphere.
The same scene.
The same splash.
The same death.
Always the same things repeating in their mind. Over and over.
All until they jolt awake with a tear-soaked face and eyes flicking around to find themself in a darkened room. The same room they wake up in every time.
The only thing keeping this night different was the looming figure watching over them in the corner.
One that seemed somewhat pale and translucent. One that seemed like.. Him.
Carson wiped their tears away and squinted as they pushed themself up, slowly moving towards whatever it was. It was unmoving as they approached. The only sound and movement from it was the water dripping down and making a small sounds as they hit the ground.
As they came a few inches away, it looked up suddenly. Pale, glossed over green eyes boring back into their own. Dead blue lips slightly parted as water slowly trickled out. Short, drenched brown hair sticking to its face. All of its features perfectly matching Carson's younger brother.
Whilst they took this all in, all the features that proved to them this was their brother, it- he spoke. His tone would've simply been low and calm if it weren't for every word sounding choked and forced out.
“You said you loved me. You said you'd never let anything happen to me.” His eyes never stopped boring into theirs as he spoke, even as they started to back away with soft whimpers similar to unspoken apologies slipping from their lips.
“Yet you didn't save me. You let me drown in ice cold waters, Carson.” The use of their name was sharp and filled with venom, causing the other to flinch a little.
Everything after that seemed to stop, the soft dripping gone and the only sound in the room being Carson's pounding heart and soft sobs. The younger boy was gone and they were finally left alone in their room. Or, that's what they thought until two hands tightly gripped their waist and pulled them down, suddenly finding themself surrounded by icy water. Screams muted as they're dragged further down, unable to swim back up as the freezing water floods their lungs, making it harder and harder to breathe as they quickly approached their final breath.
A short scream pierced the warm air as Carson quickly sat up, gasping for air and frantically looking around to find themself not submerged by the water they were just in.
They were back in the darkened room.
The same room they wake up in every time.
