This weekend I had the pleasure of visiting the nation’s capital - home not only to monuments and memorials, but also to some of the world’s most captivating and varietal art museums. As I was only there for one full day, I could only visit two – the Hirshhorn and the National Gallery of Art, which, as I found out as I was physically walking around the building, includes the National Portrait Gallery! The Hirshhorn offers visitors modern, contemporary art pieces, the kind that makes people say, “I don’t get it, but I like the colors,” while the National Gallery of Art displays everything under the sun – from civil war era, JFK, cats, to Tupac. I realized as I was walking around the two (very crowded) museums that I was much more aware of the etiquette and the how-to’s after working here, but, duh. Most people don’t get the opportunity to work behind the scenes in an art museum. So I’ve decided to share this video by PBS’s (very helpful) YouTube channel, TheArtAssignment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drrBd1bCiW0. This video offers tips and tricks to maximize your experience at a museum. Check out the video, and then come try out the tricks you’ve learned at the WCU Fine Art Museum at Bardo Arts Center! Located at 199 Centennial Drive, Cullowhee, NC 28723, we’re open on Monday – Wednesday from 10-4, Thursday from 10-7, and Friday from 10-4. Best part is…we’re free! (Donations are appreciated, though!)
