What I love about Taylor’s music
Is that I understand more of it as I get older. As I go through different life experiences, increasingly more of her songs can be traced back to what I have been through. I was only 12 years old when I really stared to listen to Taylor’s music, just in time for the awful part of my life that was middle school. Songs like “The Outside” and “Mean” were special to me back then because I often felt left out from the other kids, and mean girls impacted my life especially after I turned 13. “Tied Together With a Smile” helped me through so much that year, as I was constantly bullied and put down by people who misunderstood me. Every night when I was crying I would listen to "Safe & Sound” to relieve my anxiety, and it really helped me calm down and feel safe.
High school was something I looked forward to, because “You Belong With Me” had me excited for joining high school band, going to prom, and dating guys. In tenth grade I got my first boyfriend at the age of 15, so “Fifteen” automatically became the soundtrack to my life. As him and I grew closer and I fell in love with him as I turned 16 and then 17, so many of Taylor’s love songs began to make sense to me. “Love Story”, “You Are In Love”, “Jump Then Fall”, and “Sparks Fly” made me feel so many new emotions that I never knew were possible, all because I finally knew what love felt like.
Joining the high school band was incredible for me, because I made so many friends in band that finally loved me for me and understood me. Songs like “Long Live” and “Never Grow Up” began to hit me emotionally more than ever before in our senior year, as we all attended prom and then graduated as best friends. We made so many incredible memories together, and the fact that we’re all moving on with our lives and going in different directions was difficult to grasp at first. It has gotten easier with time, and I am so proud of what they are all becoming ☺️
Now I am 18, and I am currently taking a year off of school as I am figuring out where I want to go in life. I have “A Place in This World” on repeat right now because I am trying to figure out who I am, but with Taylor by my side I know I can do it. @taylorswift Thank you so much for writing music, and for sharing your life and your stories with us through your powerful lyrics. Your songs are beautiful, special, and timeless. There will never be a point in my life, no matter what I am going through that I can’t relate to your music. I will always be able to put in my headphones, close my eyes, and listen….
And for that I will be forever grateful ❤️
