Ok but imagine a Bloodymary AU based on If You Only Knew by Shinedown. A few experts and my thoughts on it below:

"It's 4:03 and I can't sleep

Toss and turn like the sea"

- Simon has grown very accustomed to the eridian culture of being watched while sleeping and can't sleep with out grace/rocky/adrian(?) being there with him

- Also touch starved Simon and Grace, they cuddle a bunch when sleeping, but grace isn't there for some reason and he can't sleep

- perhaps that reason is they got in a disagreement and decided they couldn't be around each other for a bit? Listen they both got trauma and healing isn't a smooth process, there's gonna be ups and downs. (dw grace is also suffering and can't sleep with the distance)

- I love the sea references in this song, it really makes me think of Simon and I see this song from his perspective

- this could also be during the time the 2 are separated for a bit bc they need distance and ✨️trauma✨️

-another idea, but angsty this time: Simon has mutated from the radiation and the blood ocean and lives a longer life than grace does, so he gets to deal with all the grief of grace dying and no longer being there with him. Also bonds more with rocky and adrian over grace passing.

- I imagine in this au grace and rocky heard Simon on the radio at some point on the way to erid and it took them quite a while to actually find him and the blood moon, so they had a good bit of correspondence before actually meeting. Simon hearing grace and being told that he was going to get him out of there, that he was going to live, that he wouldn't be alone anymore.

- He didn't actually believe Grace at first, but it gave it just enough hope to hold on until Grace found him. (No actual letters, but still the same vibes)

- I love the sea imagery in relation to Simon and the blood moon, and eventually the ocean in Grace's habitat on erid

- Simon almost dying in the blood ocean and being rescued, and kinda metaphorically dying by being abandoned, and shunned I think, then being revived in a way and coming back to life in a new community with the eridians and grace. I think being apart of a community would be important to his character, and being able to make a meaningful contribution to his community. Rocky and grace finding him and bringing him to erid with them would give simon a way to do that in a manner that is neither destructive to himself or others.
