Artist Interview
Here we are today with a friend of mine, who has played piano since she was younger. Tell us about yourself:
"Hi, my name is _, my parents put me in piano lessens when I was 5, so I have been playing for a long time now. I love the instrument and the emotions it can express"
Learning a skill like piano can be difficult, is there anything that helped motivate you when you were learning?
"My parents wanted to me to learn piano, and seeing how good my older sister was was definitely a motivator for me. But really enjoying it made it more of a hobby and less of a chore"
Do you have any favorite pieces that you perhaps hold a good memory of?
"When I was 6, one of the members of my old church played a classical piece for an event. I don't remember the name of it, but it gave me a grasp of how beautiful the sounds a piano can make are"
Do you make music?
"No"
What do you think your role is then, as a pianist but not as someone who writes music?
"From my point of view, the composer is the one who makes the music, while the person playing the instrument is translating the composer's work to the audience. So my role is to capture the emotions of the piece through the way I play"
Picking up an instrument has been something I've personally wanted to do for a long time now. Is there any advice you have to someone who would want to pick up piano, or any other instruments?
"Definitely don't expect results right away. Playing an instrument is a practice that takes years before it really starts to sound any good. Sometimes you will feel like there is no point to all your efforts, but if you push through you will be rewarded in the end. Just make sure you enjoy yourself while playing"
