Wake Up Call

As the night faded, Rina found herself back into her homeroom for the second time that night. Despite her absence yesterday, she already felt comfortable in the room. Walking around, she found a desk and sat down, letting herself enjoy a little rest before the upcoming day. She lay her head on the desk and relaxed. Letting the headphones immerse her in the music, she hummed along to the melody while it faded…
His face still fresh with pressure marks from his awkward sleep, Ryou ambled over to the main building. No relaxing students this time - no grasses filled with casual conversation. Just Ryou and the grounds.
He drew his blazer up a little tighter, for the morning hadn't quite chased the night's chill away. Drops of warmth nipped the back of his neck, swiftly followed by bites of bitter cold. Ryou quickened his pace, 'till he stood safely sheltered in the entrance hall.
He remembered the directions from yesterday, but noted one small detour. Straight up the hall, right at the canteen...
The dim lighting of the vending machine elicited a smile. Of course they left it on. He dug out some change hastily stashed away and picked up something swift becoming his usual.
An energy drink clattered into the tray, hitting the ground with unpredicted force. Ryou winced at the shockwave echoing out, but his fear quickly subsided. He wasn't breaking in; why did he need to be worried? A student in the school in the morning was far from unusual. He stashed the can away with a thought to rationing it over the day, and headed to class, where a slightly more unusual sight greeted him.
Ryou wasn't the first to arrive. In the early hours of the morning, the room of Class 1-3 already had an occupant. He'd seen a mere handful of students lingering, just waking on their own or with friends, but none in the classrooms.
He squinted, hovering at the door. A figure, hunched over on one of the chairs near the back. A tinny sound, ever-shifting, drifted faintly towards him.
He took a step towards the person, identifying the sound as music bleating from earphones. He placed the uniform, too. A student?
After a moment's hesitation, he resolved to get the strange student's attention, and softly poked her arm.
