NRM took Kamuli because of the presence of Security forces and Salaam's arrogance - Lumumba
The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Justine Kasule Lumumba has warned that the victories in the ongoing Parliamentary by-elections will require short time celebrations in order to keep focused on winning in the subsequent stations.
Lumumba says, the prolonged celebrations may divert the party members from focus and thence affect the winning spirit which is building so fast.
Since losing in Aruu North Constituency on April 6, NRM has won two other by-elections in Moroto and Kamuli Municipality. The winner in Aruu North Hon Aciro Lucy was an independent.
Speaking shortly after the declaration of results, Lumumba hailed Ministers, MPs and the entire party leadership in Busoga and beyond for the brotherly support accorded to the flag bearer, Hajat Rehema Watongola.
She also hailed the party supporters in Kamuli for enduring the humiliating talk and the torture from the political rivals. “Our supporters were beaten up and vehicles smashed but all these just energised our team to even work harder”, she observed.
She disclosed that she would shortly dispatch off another team to Kagoma constituency where elections are scheduled for May 11.
1.The choice of the candidate (Hajat Rehema Watongola) was so much appealing to the voters. She was self-driven and committed.
2. The presence of the party chairman and his factual approach to issues during the two rallies he addressed consolidated & fetched the party more votes. As usual, FDC’s Kiiza Besigye focussed more on throwing insults to the President.
3.The arrogance and behavior of our main opponent caused roaming concerns to the public. The selection of words and the talking ton during public rallies and media talk shows left some people hurt as the NRM flag bearer got praised for being a good public speaker.
4. The continued attacks on Watongola’s academic papers was partly perceived to be personal intended to furnish her image. Our challenger went too personal including touching family issues.
5. The involvement of key political leaders in the area headed by State Minister for Karamoja Hon. Moses Kizige spiced up the campaigns.
6. SG Lumumba’s address during the district conference explaining the boundaries of her relationship with Hon Salaam Musumba was a turning point at the start of the campaigns. She vowed to defeat Musumba despite being two good friends.
7. Kamuli is one of the districts that have largely benefited from govt projects on top of giving them a Municipality. Nearly all roads are being worked on within the Municipality.
8. Three of the five losers in the party primaries opted to move with the candidate through out the campaigns except Mastula Namatovu and Walujjo.
9. The applied approach to campaigns that saw Watongola holding rallies at village/Ward level was more befitting.
10. The availability of security in the area helped in resisting the reportedly planned scenes of chaos by our opponents that would have perhaps scared away some our voters. There was also a good weather.
