I used to do this too, and the main fear went in phases: aliens, then meteors, etc. Except I’m still afraid of everything and worry about meteors passively almost daily tbh

oh man im glad im not the only one haha...i still get this every once in a while, esp with my fear of people breaking in, although i may be underestimating the effect it still has on me since ive been living with a roommate since last summer and ive always done a lot better at night when there’s someone else in the room so [shrugs]

would you mind explaining to me about the arc those panels with hank and ororo are from and how they got retconned and what is going on basically? c:

ahhh man okay

it’s actually from the “will of charles xavier” arc, i just call it the matthew arc/storyline bc that’s really what it’s about

but, for everyone who hasn’t read that arc, it’s about the x-men learning that the first part of charles’s will deals with a mutant named matthew malloy, who is hugely powerful in…not really specified ways, i think he’s a reality warper? but, yes. when matthew first manifested, charles decided that the best way to deal with him was to block his powers and remove his memories of them, a process which had to be done more than once, as they kept bleeding through. obviously this wasn’t something he could do while dead, so he included matthew in his will so the x-men would continue keeping an eye on him.

conveniently, matthew’s powers emerge yet again right around this time. the jgs x-men, including scott and emma and i think illyana, team up with shield to try and put the blocks back in his mind; long story short, nothing they do works, and matthew sends them all back to the schools. scott has illyana bring him back to matthew, and the three of them retreat to devil’s tower, i think, far away from any civilians, to talk about options. 

this is when those panels with hank and ororo happen - hank is back at the jgs and trying to get help with the matthew situation, since what they’d tried earlier hadn’t worked, and he isn’t receiving any reply.

meanwhile, back on devil’s tower, scott is talking to matthew, and being pretty straightforward about the fact that he wants matthew on his side bc he’d be a good asset - but also because he wants to help him. scott has his mind open to matthew (who also has powerful psychic abilities) this entire time, so they’re totally on the level.

this is getting super long im sorry OKAY the next important thing that happens is that shield decides to take matters into their own hands and see if they can blast matthew into oblivion, problem solved. they end up killing not only matthew but also scott and illyana.

back at scott’s school, eva has decided that Enough Is Enough, and she goes back in time to bring a young charles xavier to the present to help them deal with the situation.

matthew is able to resurrect himself (or he just didn’t die and was able to put his body back together), and although he tries, he can’t do the same for scott and illyana. 

long story short, things just keep getting worse, and charles and eva decide to go to where matthew’s parents first met and stop that meeting from happening, thus erasing matthew from the world. eva goes back to the reading of the will, where there is no mention of the now nonexistent matthew malloy, and proceeds to...not exactly blatantly lie to scott about what happened, but she twists it to make it sound like somehow scott was responsible for everything turning to shit, like somehow he wasn’t the only person approaching matthew like a person and giving him a choice, and shield wasn’t going to try killing him anyway. (this is what drives scott to disband his school and almost turn himself in. good job, eva.)

so, nothing is gained, i have yet to find a point to the “this mutant is too powerful to be controlled so we have to wipe him from existence” thing (unless the idea was foreshadowing what i feel is 616 scott’s probable demise at the end of secret wars, in which case this was a weirdly complicated way to go about it), scott is lied to about something he can’t remember, leading him to estrange everyone still currently giving a shit about him (other than alex), hank doesn’t remember coming to the realization that scott’s been right about no one else caring about mutants this whole time, and seriously what the fuck what the point of any of that.

holy shit this got so long im sorry but. bleh. this arc.
