Boston Fielder and his band Muthawit have played with the likes of Spoek Mathambo, MF Doom, the Shins, Jneiro Jarel, and others. Their latest effort, PMS Junkie -- PMS is actually an acronym for Pre Military Strike, as well as others -- recently came out, and is a satirical look into modern society, and the constant news cycle. "Generation Divide (More, More)" is the latest single and sonically it sounds quite a bit like Sly and the Family Stone/Cee-Lo Green mixed with Fishbone. It's soulful and it kicks ass.

MuthaWit To Release PMS Junkie July 4th

MuthaWit’s sophomore effort PMS Junkie is coming out July 4th.Leader Boston Fielder says, “PMS Junkie is dedicated during this election year to soldiers fighting for peace, the makers of Red Hot Blues, revolutionary feminine energy and the rapturous finality of the cluster bomb.” The single “Celine In America” is a rock/ soul hybrid set inside MuthaWit’s world of dissecting global disharmonies.

Aural Dive: Muthawit - Celine In America

If I correctly interpreted the words of Muthawit – as sung through the band’s leader, Boston Fielder – Celine, and allow me to add the "Dion," is America’s metaphorical Opiate Goddess whose socially dangerous on-demand presence makes a citizenry’s entertainment pilgrimage to Las Vegas unnecessary in their search for cruise missile fireworks displays, suiciders, government-sponsored hit squads, puppet shows, Muslim Mania that eerily resembles a Martin Niemöller reality show, and our be-affluent-or-die society. All Praises Due.

“Celine in America” is Muthawit’s first song to be released from the upcoming album, PMS Junkie. The tune, built on top of gentle percussion, is a reminder of what's perversely hilarious about the value we place on celebrity aura or damn-near anything other than the new dangers of the world, thanks in part to Celine's sleight of hand. While not exactly a minimalist, Fielder – he prefers to be called Boston – shows a relatively light touch in the song’s orchestration. Funky and fuzzy guitar fills, digital buzzing, keyboards that sound like underwater crystal clinks and intermittent waves of electronic strings make nodding your head second nature.

You know the procedure by now when approaching a Muthawit song – leave your genre notions at home, or you’ll otherwise miss the song’s blues architecture, Psychedelic Soul accoutrements, Rock-scented vocal delivery plus three or four other styles thrown in to keep you guessing.
