I hate putting my business out there and Though I am angry I am trying to write this so that people can give my family, specifically my mom, grace and understanding of our situation.

On Sunday, my mother attacked and strangled my sister, and tried to kick her out of her own home. In self-defense, my sister fought back to try to leave and deescalate the situation. Ever since my mom moved in with my sister in august, my sister has endured threats of violence and abuse. Because I’m the only other family member in her life, but am currently in nyc, the only thing she could do is call me to help deescalate, and prevent my mom from attacking her. but unfortunately, I missed her call on Sunday, so I couldn’t and it lead to things escalating further. Long story short, my mom called the cops hoping to lie and have them arrest my sister, but of course they didn’t work in her favor, and she ended up getting arrested herself. She’s currently being held in Fulton County jail.

My sister and I have been dealing with my mom’s mental illness and abuse our entire lives. Her borderline personality disorder (BPD) and the trauma she’s faced as a Black woman living under this system have led her to view us and anyone trying to support her as enemies. While she has caused us tremendous harm, resulting in me being homeless during my childhood and my sister and I still facing housing insecurity today, we know for a fact that she is still deserving of support and that she can’t get the help she needs while incarcerated.

I’m trying to raise funds for my mom’s bail and to get my sister out of the house to keep them separated and into a safe place so she can heal. Additionally, I need to figure out how to support my mom from a safe distance once she’s out. And figure out funds for legal support and gathering resources. Please donate whatever you can, and if you can’t donate, simply sharing and reposting would be greatly appreciated.
