songs i’m obsessed with part 2
here’s tonight’s banger
my friend ‘maggot’ is in this band now
i still can’t stop saying it
this one was part of a series of perpetually unfinished shitty songs neckbeard 2009 john was writing due to manhattan project obsession, inspired by the cecil kelley criticality incident at los alamos:
Kelley had been standing on a foot ladder looking at the contents of the mixing tank through a viewing window when the excursion event occurred. Two other technicians working within the laboratory witnessed a bright flash of blue light followed by the sound of a thud. The power burst either caused Kelley to collapse or knocked him off the ladder, and he had fallen to the ground. He arose disoriented, and apparently switched the mixer off and then back on again before running outside of the building. The other technicians found him there in the snow in a state of ataxia and only able to say to them, "I'm burning up! I'm burning up!"
the idea being that during the 35 hours he spent screaming in a hospital bed before finally dying horribly (then a pathologist stole 8 pounds of his organs and tissues and took them back to the lab in mayonnaise jars) he was having Psychedelic Visions [as a framing narrative!!!!] of the manhattan project scientists receiving terrible knowledge from Hindu gods in the desert
the lyrics on this short track were supposed to be bhagavad gita 11:32, which is what was running through oppenheimer’s head as he witnessed the first test: krishna revealing his divine “universal form” to arjuna on the battlefield, “brighter than a thousand suns”, in order to convince him to “do his duty” (i.e. go to war against his own family and friends because it’s god’s plan and they’re going to die anyway)
obviously there were three “trinity” songs. the other two were “feynman” (spastic bongo drumming w/ Time Signatures!!!) and “bainbridge” a few bars of which can be heard at the end. [the refrain in “bainbridge” was a call-and-response w/ the response being “now we are all sons of bitches”]
anyway john2009 was a nerd and this sucks but it was so cool to me at the time
the Guitar Pro MIDIs i made in high school were very, very funny
