A/N: This was supposed to be uploaded yesterday but apparently Tumblr hates me. So I’m uploading again now. Enjoy :3
You never understood the idea of soulmates and how the whole thing worked. How were you supposed to fall in love with someone you never saw or talked? What if they were already dead? What if they were criminals or terrorists or other bad things? Were you forced to be with them?
The whole idea seemed crazy to you yet there you were, looking at the pink name beautifully written on your forearm. Min Hyuk. It wasn't a common name, at least not where you lived. Your mind kept wandering around as your aunt exchanged votes with her new wife.
Everyone was so happy with them, after almost sixty years alone, they finally found each other in a cruise overseas. Two souls separated by millions of miles and somehow Mr. Destiny though they were a perfect match.
As soon as the ceremony ended, everyone headed to the reception, the newly-wedded hugging and bowing to everyone as the guests started to get their champagne glasses and disperse around the room.
The place was wonderfully decorated, like something straight out of Pinterest. There were fairy lights and tulle wrapped on the ceiling and going down the walls like waterfalls of tiny bright lights. The chairs were made out of a dark type of wood with a soft light-brown seat. The tables had vases with white flowers and more fairy lights. And to wrap it all up, the sun was setting, painting the place with heavenly shades of red, yellow, orange and pink.
You didn't know many people besides your family, so you stuck with your cousins, pretending to be interested in their futile conversation of who had the best soulmate.
"What about you, cousin?" one of your cousins asked.
"huh?" you simply answered, not very aware.
"Have you found your soulmate yet?" you glanced to your still pink tattoo and denied with your head. They all gave you pitiful eyes like you were some type of lost puppy. "I'm sure you'll find them" she patted you on the shoulder.
As one of them was about to say another thing, your aunt hit her glass, asking for everyone's attention, and you silently thanked her. She and her wife started their thankings and say more lovey-dovey words as everyone cried.
"And I can't forget to thank my beautiful Y/N for convincing me to go to this trip" you heard your name and smiled, raising your glass as she did the same. Her eyes, once again, started to tear up. "It took me so long to find someone for me, but meanwhile I had my loyal sidekick, the Sancho Panza to my Don Quijote" she smiled and you felt a little tear forming on the corner of your eye. you hated crying in public. "Life wasn't always generous to us, but hey! We survived. Thank you, Y/N. Thank you for being there when nobody else was. I love you" you allowed yourself to cry as you walked towards the woman who raised you and hugged her. You were so thankful for having her in your life.
And now, you were about to lose that. Now she was a married woman. And you were a single one.
Her wife finished her thanks and everyone started to eat and talk, the loud murmurs making your already quite tipsy head pump. You excused yourself from your family and went outside to get some fresh night air.
You sat on a wooden bench under a tree, the fairy lights wrapped on the trunk illuminating the place slightly.
The view was breathtaking and everything seemed out of some french cult movie. The bench was positioned in front of a little wall that separated the place from a vineyard, the long corridors of vines disappearing to the sight.
You took a deep breath, inhaling the clean air and contemplating the future. You didn't want to be selfish and not let your aunt live her new life after so many years, you wanted her to be happy, to be free, you were also an adult after all.
"Can I join you?" your thoughts were cut short by a voice behind you. You nodded, not looking at the owner of the voice until he sat by your side.
He was tall and skinny but you still could see a muscle or two marking his white dress shirt that was already rolled up to his elbows. His face was kind and held a big smile, making him look young, almost childish. The dim lights illuminated certain points of his feature, his profile beautifully marked as he was watching the scene in front of him.
"So you are the one who grew up with Penny?" he didn't look at you, his eyes still glued on the vineyard.
"M-hm" you answered shortly, taking a sip from your already warm champagne.
"She told me a lot about you" he finally looked at you and you almost lost yourself when you look back at him. His brown eyes were so kind and smiled along with his lips. "Don't worry, only good things" his accent was thick, probably he was Korean like your aunt's wife.
"How did you meet her?" you turned your body a little to get a better view of the man in front of you.
"I'm Yong Hyun's nephew" he extended his hand to you. "Nice to meet you" you shook his hand as copied his words. "You must hate me".
"Why would I hate you? I just met you" you giggled a little and he smiled at you, cocking his head.
"Because your aunt has spent a lot of time with my aunt".
"And just because of that I would hate you?" you laughed at his face. "Oh my God! You're so cute" you squeezed his cheek. The man could feel his cheeks burn at the sudden touch. He wasn't used to this type of attitude. "I would never hate you. Nor your aunt" you reassured him. "I couldn't be happier for auntie and Hyun. They deserve each other. Not just for the fact they are soulmates but because they found each other after so long".
"What about you?"
"What?"
"Have you find your soulmate yet?" you blushed at his question, you didn't know exactly why. You looked at the tattoo in your arm once again in that evening.
"Nope" you answered, rubbing the name and looking at the ground.
"So... you wouldn't mind if I ask for your number?" you looked over to the man in front of you, quite unsure of his words.
Of course, people asked for your number before, it wasn't the first time, but something about him was weird. In a good way though.
You nodded and he gave you his phone, where you saved your number as Penny's Y/N. You gave him his phone back. The man got up and simply smiled to you, his teeth showing, almost in excitement. He started walking away and you realized he didn't tell his name.
"Hey, you" you screamed when he was a little far from you, making him stop on his track and turn to you, his cheeks rosy, his eyes deep yet soft looking at you. He took your breath away now you were fully seeing him. "You didn't tell me your name" you could hear him chuckle.
