all mx's fault
I'm slowly trying to catch up on Doctor Who. For a long time I was only familiar with the Rose seasons and bits of Donna and Martha because of my erratic viewing habits. Thanks to mxjames' prodding I've finally gotten up to the eleventh Doctor. Mx who wants to know my thoughts. (⊙ω⊙✿)
I'll start with the Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang since that's what I've yet to rant about to mx. I've noticed so far in series five and six (I've only watched up until Let's Kill Hitler) that many major plot points introduced at the same time and are rushed. Too many events happen at once and we aren't given time to chew on them. All the Doctor's enemies joining together to trap him is worthy of several episodes or at least some consideration. Instead the entire affair is used as a jumping point for Amy and the Doctor's shenanigans with the Pandorica. While it's fine to use previous events as jumping points, they should matter. The entire universe collapsed and all of the Doctor's enemies worked together, but after the everything has been fixed the Tardis blowing up is not investigated. I'm okay with not figuring out why it didn't blow up right away. I'm not okay with it just being forgotten about. (Maybe I just haven't gotten there to the explanation yet. Like why Melody is needed as weapon. I just would prefer everyone being proactive about the problem.)
I also have problems with Rory's existence as a robotic Roman. I can buy Amy willing the Doctor, Rory, and her parents back from the cracks because of living near a crack. I cannot buy Rory's creation by the Doctor's enemies using Amy's memories to bring Rory back. A Rory created from Amy's memories would be subjected to Amy's biased perception of Rory and her lack of having Rory's memories. (It was certainly intended to be read that the Rory with his memories was willed into that body because of Amy's connection to the cracks. That was how the Doctor figured out how to save himself after all. I still think the Rory plot made no sense because Rory was made by their enemies.)
I originally thought it very clever that the cracks ate Amy's parents. I assumed that the end of the series Amy was running away from the fact her parent's were eaten by the cracks and later we would slowly learn more about them and about Amy. But that hasn't happened.
The fact that Dawkins had a star cult was fantastic. ★~(◠ω◕✿) I actually think he'd be anti- star cult. No evidence you see.
I like time travel plots, but adding in the time travel in those two episodes was excessive. Time travel should exist as a plot device to be rewarding.
A Christmas Carol mostly confused me on the current time travel rules. I understand that there are fixed points of time. I don't really understand anything else. Wouldn't the Doctor traveling to the past change how the man interacts with the Doctor in the beginning of the episode. The who-verse time travel rules just suck and I don't like them.
The romance between the girl and Scrooge (totally his name u know it too) was skeevy. From the girl's point of view she meets him when she has a large seniority over him and only knows him over the course of a short time period.
Also Amy and Rory and their bedroom habits. (●︿●)
The Impossible Astronaut and the Day of the Moon. First I dislike how Amy and Rory are suddenly not traveling with the Doctor. Plus the sudden time jump in the Day of the Moon was unnecessary. The more time jumps there are the less we see how character's interact with each other.
Why were the Silents on Earth for thousands of years? What were they doing on Earth? I understand they were involved with kidnapping Amy, but why be on Earth for such a long time?
I wish we got to meet Canton Everett Deleware III's boyfriend. I looked it up and homosexuality was still illegal during Nixon's presidency. Admitting that he was gay was dangerous as fuck.
Amy shot at her own daughter. omg.
I don't have anything in particular to say about The Curse of the Black Spot.
I heard everybody really liked The Doctor's Wife, but I found it really obnoxious. I suppose I dislike zaniness and the villain and the Tardis were just really zany.
Don't make extra-universal travel so easy. Every time that happens you diminish the underpinnings of Doomsday. I suppose since the Doctor thought he'd find a Time Lord is why he attempted it but... uggg.
The Rebel Flesh and The Almost People were my favourite. Two entire episodes examining what people consider identity. FUCK YES! I agree with the Doctor's point of view that if you have the same manner and memories you are the same person even if you are made of self replicating matter.
Amy's characterization was inconstant in this episode compared to earlier episodes. Amy accepted Roman!Rory was Rory. Why then would she not accept the Doctor was the Doctor. If anything it should have been Amy reaching out to girl that Rory had been reaching out to.
The Doctor's characterization was mostly consistent. Considering that he left Tentoo with Rose it would have to be.
The part that was not consistent is that he killed Amy's double. It's established in the episodes that the doubles are conscious independently even when connected to the originals. (ex. The suffering flesh in the pile and the deaths of the others when disconnected.) Otherwise there's no reason to try to shut the plants down.
There's going to be trouble with the doubles' rights. If the small group of humans had trouble accepting them as real people, imagine all the other people that will have problems.
I've already ranted about most of the stuff I found ridiculous about A Good Man Goes to War to mx. It too suffers from everything happening too quickly.
I dislike the joke about how one man is fat and the other is thin and they don't have names. It's dehumanizing. (Was it purposely pointing out gay character's often don't get names? Or was it just a homophobic joke. I can't tell.)
I should add that I find River's name to be clever. River being a Time Lord isn't particularly weird since Jenny, Tentoo, and Donna all set Time Lord precedents Rose and that villain back in series one also set precedents for consequences involving the vortex. If we are going to talk about River, we should talk about ganger!Melody and how a version of her is dead. If gangers are people even connected, a baby was killed. ┬──┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ) (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
Finally I can talk about the last episode I saw: Let's Kill Hitler. Why did Amy and Rory not search for Melody with the Doctor? I find this uncharacteristic for people who cried over their kid in the previous episode. Plus Rory went and rescued his wife and kid against an army. I was expecting Amy and Rory to insist bring River with them at the end of the episode, but that didn't happen.
If River knew them as kids, she should have been at their wedding. I don't care if you lampshade it. It's bad writing.
Meanwhile we keep getting told that the Doctor and River have a relationship. So far we haven't seen it develop. We saw the Doctor's first kiss with River, but if you notice his arms during it he keeps them away from her.
That's pretty much my thoughts when it comes to what I've watched. Here's to hoping I can catch up for the finale. (︶︹︺) Don't any of you dare spoil me.
happy birthday mxjames
Introduction!
Heya, Tumblr! I've been stalking following various blogs on here for quite a while, and just thought I'd like a tumblr of my own to make things easier. Plus, I can reblog stuff here! It'll be nice to have a blog of my own, especially once I can figure out a better name for it, haha.
So, a little about me. I'm just your ordinary queer ace gal(?) who likes writing, drawing, music, sewing plushies, and science. I like my fandoms (Sherlock, Doctor Who, Sonic, others) very much so expect lots of fanwork. I'm also pretty shy, but if you'd like to talk, feel free to contact me!
I'll try to upload stuff on at least a weekly basis to keep myself working, so I'll probably be using the queue feature loads.
