A Love Like Theirs
Eurydice and Orpheus
Penelope and Odyesseus
Persephone and Hades
Someday our love will be added to the list
Of loves so great songs were song and stories were shared
Of loves so true and pure and powerful
I am young and I am foolish
I have made mistakes and I will make many more
As I intend to
In fact I will
I will make dozens upon dozens
Big ones, small ones, stupid ones, dire ones
So that once I make it to my end and others name me a fool
I can correct them
Because only a true fool would not see what I see
Would not feel what I feel
Would not know what I know
And what I see, and feel, and know, is this:
I am the luckiest man, living now and dead later
I am blessed by the soul I’ve happened across
In a student bar on a random Saturday in springtime
We danced in each others arms, as rain poured and stars shone
Tipsy and trembling, but happy and whole
It may not be Greek or fantastical
But it’s ours.
And by the gods do I love her.
Ellie and Nicholas.
Nicholas and Ellie.
It’ll have a nice ring to it, don’t you think?
