Given the opportunity, Mihael crawled away from the monster by crawling his way back to ‘safety,’ but before that, he did bother to cast Yrden in order to slow the beast down, and deal some more damage of his own.
Thus, panting until his lungs were raw and just breathing alone seemed to painfully sear them, Mihael pushed himself back standing by sinking his steel sword to the ground, his mysterious blue eyes with cat slits watched as the fellow Witcher dealt the final blow and, once again, saved his life.
“We could say both,” straightening his back as far as he could with a gasp of pain, the young Witcher yanked a money pouch from under his belt and chucked it at the other. “That was an advance. Half of my earnings for this relict’s head.” His chin jerked toward the monster that now lay dead on the ground.
First, Mihael had truly never known a Witcher to help another for free unless they were pals, and given that he wasn’t yet acquainted with any from the northern lands save for the White Wolf, the stranger had most likely expected his share.
“The name’s Mihael, by the way. School of the Cat.” His eyes then shifted to the other’s medallion, and back to greet yellow hues. “You’ve come a long way. But if your destination is Novigrad, I’m afraid you’ll have to turn back.” Then, as if rehearsing something he’d read from a parchment roll time and again, Mihael leaned back against a rock for support and tilted his head to the side. “All sorceresses, warlocks, alchemists, and any other creature with a drop of magical blood to it are to be hunted down and exterminated. Or so says Radovid. Unless, of course, you plan to prowl the streets in secret like a street rat.”
Lambert caught the pouch, weighing it slightly in his hand before he put it away in his satchel. This little detour seemed fairly profitable, which made it all the more worthwhile. The idea of saying ‘thank you’ didn’t even occur to him. After all, he was the one who saved the other, not the other way round.
“ Lambert. And thanks for the tip but Radovid can kiss my ass. They need witchers and they know that. I’ve seen his soldiers shit themselves when an ekimmara appeared near Oxenfurt. Usually there’s a lot of shit going on around there, sewers need cleaning out most of the time, not to mention it is high time for me to get new armour and see if they can put my swords in a better shape. “
He would probably approach with caution, but there was no way he would turn around now. He was way too close, not to mention after roaming the wilds, sometimes going to a bustling city like Novigrad was a welcomed change. Maybe he would even visit a barber and most definitely a few brothels.
“ You can scrape for jobs here... I want to see this witch hunt for myself. “

Unlike any other Witcher whose eyes were yellow by nature, the lad’s proved a light shade of blue that glowed in the dark like those of a feline. Perhaps mutations didn’t quite change his eye colour, though there were a couple of very befuddled slits as, with the seconds going by, Mihael recovered his sight.
“Shut up!” The young man barked, yanking from his belt a vial filled with some strange blood orange liquid, which he chugged down in a single go before tossing the glass aside, causing it to shatter to smithereens as it collided with a rock.
Swallow should do his wounds some justice, even though it tasted like venom and burned his throat unpleasantly as it went down. In a matter of seconds, Mihael had pulled his sword and sunk it to the ground, using it as a support to stand a fraction of second before he lunged at the beast, who was now busy screeching and aflame, from behind, leaping on its back and sinking a blade to its skull.
“Ah!” Mihael cried, losing balance and falling off the beast to the ground. Without a second to spare writhing in pain, blue, cat-like eyes darted up at the beast’s forepaws, which swung madly in the air as it reared on its hind legs. In all honesty, the only way to avoid that kind of blow was to roll off, but what with something most likely broken, Mihael was unable to perform his evasion.
Only a miracle could save him then… or perhaps some Witcher he knew little about.
The situation was not rosy to say the least, at least for the other witcher as Lambert saw the fiend raising its foreleg to carry out - more than likely - the finishing blow on the other. As the beast’s attention was once again elsewhere, he didn’t hesitate to jump in the way, sword held out with a firm grip, cutting the palm of the fiend that let out a painful and furious cry and wanted to slash at Lambert, but he already sent a wave of Ignii at the monster, making it back away so the other can at least crawl away to relative safety.
It was hard to delay such a huge creature for long, so the soon he could, Lambert not cast Quen on himself so he could at least withstand the blow that was definitely coming for him. As the barrier exploded, Lambert used that moment of confusion to his advantage, jumping up and slashing across the fiend’s face, being painfully aware that they don’t have long until the monster uses its third eye and then there is no way of stopping him from killing the other.
The second he landed, Lambert rolled back, trying to see where he managed to cut the fiend, the slash spreading diagonally, taking out the left eye, just stopped before the third... it looked maybe slightly damaged, but in Lambert’s eyes that was not good enough. Not to mention the fiend was charging at him with all its might, with the anger of a wounded predator and the witcher had a difficult time dodging the blows, let along trying to injure it again. The monster was too close to use the sword, but thankfully his Ignii was once again ready and the closeness worked in his favour as he sent a stream of fire in the beast’s face, directed in the middle, melting the eye, setting its fur aflame, still jumping back though as at first the attacks still did not slow down. Though with just one eye left, the fiend was nowhere near as accurate anymore and Lambert used that to start delivering deep cuts on its body, until it slowed the fiend down enough the he could deliver the finishing blow.
Out of breath and now also richer with several new scars and bruises, Lambert walked over to the other, sitting down next to him, getting a water skin out to quench his thirst.
“ So... first ever fiend fight or just having a bad day? “
