I wish people would listen.
I feel like they hear more than they listen to things.
This can be applied generally, but right now I'm talking about music. And not just the music music, but the lyrics of the music. And this is brought on currently by the talk surrounding Beyonce's new "Bow Down / I Been On" track.
The song is not telling everyone to bow down to her - at least that is not my understanding, and I like to think I have great understanding of most things when I try hard enough. Plus I read the lyrics. This song is directed straight to those who constantly challenge her status in the music industry i.e. those like Keri Hilson and whoever else. I got that the first time listening to the track. I thought that was obvious.
This is simply a general diss track, really an extension of "Diva". I feel like this is nothing novel or crass in the music industry. Calm yo tits.
And the whole "what happened to the unity of women" argument. Again, this is not a song directed towards just women, though yes she does mention about wanting to be like her when being little girls (again, I feel like that was a shot towards female 'artists' in the industry like Keri or Keyshia). It's specifically for haters, you know the saying, "hating ass bitches". If you have "hating ass bitches" in your life, you can relate to this song. This ain't no different from any other song you heard from your favorite hip hop/rap artist about them being #1 in the game and n----s/bitches ain't shit, etc.
And if you think bitches are synonymous to women, you need to reevaluate your views on everything.
SN - You don't have to like the song. That's not the argument here, because this applies to so many artists and songs out there right now. I'm saying, before you fall in with whatever bandwagon you fall in with, just listen for yourself. Not hear, listen.
But hey, these are my 2 cents, none of which you asked for.
