It's been ages since I've picked up a pencil but I had such a lovely time redrawing my 5 to reflect more of my current style :)

Tell me your Runner Five lore! how did they get to Abel, what are they like and stuff?

Hi!

My runner 5 is an American who got stuck in London on spring break. Her actual name is Penelope but only Sam can call her that and only in the walls of Abel, never on a mission(eventually she lets Peter do use it too). She was trying to out run heartbreak during her senior year of college. As a theater major she had hoped to spend the trip seeing shows but that never got to happen.

I’ve always felt very self insert about her. She’s from Jersey cause I’m from Jersey. She hates running but does it anyway cause I hate running (and do it anyway). The one thing I’ve always felt sure about my 5 tho is that 5 is what she is not who she is. 5 is a suit of armor she wears on missions. The thing that can make the hard choices to save Abel or the world. That’s why Sam can’t use her real name on missions because if Sam asks Penny to stop being a hero and come home, Penny absolutely would.

1. Yes, my 5 was pretty active and athletic (and also clumsy) as a kid, so she broke a couple bones growing up. This has made her a little more prone to injuries (especially in her ankles). Surprisingly though she hasn’t broken anything since z day (save for a few tibial stress fractures that ofc 5 will never admit to actually having, but Maxine treated her for).

11. She always wakes up early. It does not matter how few hours of sleep she got (much to everyone’s dismay because it’s usually not a lot), she is always up at the butt-crack of dawn. She likes the serenity and solitude of the morning and the feeling of hope the dawning of a new day brings. She is also a crunchy Colorado girl at heart and saved her hammock during the apocalypse, so she can usually be found hanging around somewhere in Abel. Her favorite place is between two posts at the top of the coms tower (hard to say who that gives the biggest heart attack to). There is more, but it includes a spoiler so it’ll be at the end of this post :)

20. 5 is from the US (specifically Colorado like me) and was getting her masters degree in England when the outbreak happened.

11 (pt. 2). When Sara died she left 5 a key, which 5 figured out unlocks the ladder of the coms tower. So whenever 5 has had a rough day and/or generally needs an escape, she climbs up to the top of the tower to sit (usually in her hammock).

2, 7, 8, 10?

2: Post Apocalypse yeah, There are a few deaths that, while committed in self-defense that my 5 views a murder. And that’s not getting into the stuff done under mind control. Pre Apocalypse they were very straight-laced.

7: Super jumpy, they hate jump scares. They didn’t see the appeal of something meant to scare you even before the apocalypse. Although they do have a fondness for Psycho given that it’s not like most modern day movies.

8: Probably a mix of ASMR roleplay videos as well as videos about ways to help mental health.

10: My Five talks, not a whole lot but that’s mostly shyness and they’ve never gone non-verbal.

Happy Birthday to my first celebrity love ❤️ David Duchovny’s picture hung above my bed, and adorned my walls, notebooks, and pillowcase for a solid decade (and my brain for much longer), and after a solid 20 years of pining, I finally got to meet him last summer (I cried, natch.)

Also got to meet him at a book reading and signing he did later that same summer, but the guy who took my picture did a less than stellar job with the focus 😒

In any event, a dream come true, a check off the bucket list. Now, to complete my list of my top 5:
