2 Apps I'm Digging These Days: Wonder Camera & My Data Manager
I'm always on the lookout for cool new apps to try out, and I got a couple of really good recommendations in the past week -- too good not to share, really. So here goes.
The first one is totally silly, but such a trip, I swear. I first heard about it when I drew a new selfie - the Animelfie - for my Selfie Series on the Fabstagram.
I really had no idea how people were creating all these photos of themselves with scary-ass alien/anime eyes, and one of my IG friends (@kristinejoyvelasco) was kind enough to enlighten me about the Wonder Camera app.
I didn't really think I'd ever use it -- because hello.. creepy anime eyes... but then she said the magic words...
So off I went to check it out.
If you can get past the rather hilarious writeup...
Just with one tap, you will find the most beautiful you and become the perfect goddess instantly.
... you'll find that the technology behind it is really pretty cool. Basically you take a pic (or choose one from your photo album) and then "SCHWIIING!" it does this magic wand beautifying thing (and it really does make a "schwiing!" sound, btw).
And voilà -- I don't know about "perfect goddess" but suddenly your face is slimmer, your skin looks flawless and umm... well, you have alien/anime eyes. But you can get rid of those by choosing a lower beautification level (there are 5) or fixing the eyes in "advanced beautification" mode.
Now I realize I can't get away with just drawing this, and I was supposed to make my friend Anna my model but she bailed on me so I had to use myself. (Forgive me, #antiselfieleague.) Here goes. The top left is the original, and then top right is level 1, I think, then lower left is level 3 and lower right is level 5 (a.k.a. AnimAlien mode).
Man, those anime eyes are terrifying, and I'm really not one of those people who are all "Dear God, please, let me be WHITER!"... but check out the supersmooth skin! And the face thinness!
So yeah, pretty cool. And of course the first thought that came into my head when I tried it out was "WHERE WAS THIS GODDAMN WONDER-TECHNOLOGY WHEN I WAS BEING INTERVIEWED FOR TV AND LOOKING LIKE THE GOODYEAR BLIMP??"
Oh well. Maybe in the future. Until then, no more TV for me.
Anyway it really isn't very honest, if you really think about it, so I recommend that one use it with caution and a healthy dose of common sense. Because really, it's kind of the face version of a WonderBra...
So yeah, you don't want get too used to that sort of thing. And if you find you're getting a little too vain and enamored with your WonderFace, then I highly recommend you use the "Uglification" levels (yes, it has those too!) j to set your head straight -- or just crack yourself up.
LOL, my husband was all "WHY ARE YOU POSTING THOSE??" Haha! No shame. :D
So okay, let's move on to the more intelligent and useful app -- which I really think everyone should go grab right now... the My Data Manager app.
Basically My Data Manager is a simple app that helps you to keep track of your mobile data usage on your phone or tablet. I started using it as soon as I found out about it from my friend Kenn because honestly, I think I've got way too much stuff going on in terms of connectivity.
As convenient as unlimited plans are, and much as all this unlimited mobile data saves my sanity when my DSL goes down, I think I could probably benefit from scaling back a bit.
If your situation is different and your only plan is something with a limit, then My Data Manager comes in handy too.
Here's some info from the app page:
• Set usage alarms to avoid "bill shock".
• Track historical consumption using easy to understand visualizations.
• Ensure you are using your ideal data plan and maximize how you use your data.
• Save money by using your plans more effectively.
And here's a sample screenshot:
What My Data Manager really does is it allows you to discover what kind of mobile internet user you really are, so you can pick the plan that best suits you.
If you're a light user, then a lower plan should be fine. If you're a YouTube fanatic or some other type of heavy data user, then you may want to upgrade to unlimited, or something like the PowerSurf 499 I have on Sammy the S4, which allows 1GB of mobile data a month.
Note: You can go find out which is the best plan for you with this (adorable!) plan profiler on the Globe site.
And lastly, if you're the type who likes to verify that you're really using up all the stuff you're paying for, then My Data Manager provides easy reference for when your bill or plan expiration notice comes.
So go grab it. It's available for both Apple and Android (as is the Wonder Camera).
And that's it for me. What apps are YOU liking these days? Let me know in the comments! :)
