Started having contractions around 4am that actually hurt to the point where I was having to breathe through them manually. Got to the hospital around 5am but was only 5cm dilated and my water hadn’t broken yet. Slowly the contractions got stronger and stronger until all I could do was writhe on the bed and breathe. I did somehow figure out that if I pushed hard on my inner hips by my pelvis on the nerves going down my legs that that actually helped A LOT. I had to wait for shift change to get the epidural so I had to deal with contractions unmedicated for about 3 1/2 hours 😅 I even had a contraction while they put in the epidural, that wasn’t fun lol but after?? Holy heck no pain at all it was wild. I wasn’t high really, just blissfully not in horrible agony anymore lol By 1pm I was still only 6cm dilated so they gave me a hormone IV to speed things up, and around 5pm used a tool to break my waters manually. Slowly the pressure built until it started to, not hurt, but feel really really uncomfortable. I was too small for the normal braces for labour so I had to have nurses hold my legs while I pushed. The one nurse was my hero, she was literally the best and helped the situation be special and not scary. There was a few times not having a partner to care for me during the birth really hurt but I told myself I was going to do this myself and I meant it. Absolutely no regrets still 💚
But once I started to need to push, the labour Doctor suddenly appeared and I was allowed to push finally. They would count to three and tell me to breathe out all my air and then push super super hard. At one point they told me to stop for a second and I could feel him crowning, the burn and stretch was so intense I dont know how I managed to NOT push. Then two more huge pushes and he was out. The sensation of him slipping out and the pressure just suddenly stopping was so wild. And then I had a purple slimy bundle of love on my chest 💚 it took him a minute to cry because the cord was around his neck, but I was assured that it wasn’t for long/wont cause long term issues. I only had to push for 15 minutes so it wasn’t enough time to hurt him 💚
While they were checking him over the Doctor just casually started threading a suture needle. I had NO idea I had torn down there at all lol. But I think I counted 5 stitches while I was blissfully watching the nurses work on my baby 💚
And for only a 6lbs baby, I lost an additional 15lbs just from everything else lol I must have had water retention before birth too because my face is so thin again too. I had a pretty good double chin for the last month but my jaw line decided to come out to play again.
Labour in total was about 15 hours and I’m proud to say I didn’t scream once 😮💨 (mostly because I hate making loud noise though 😅)
