PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #9

Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – After observing my project 1 installation, I can see that things are changing. Although these changes are happening very slowly and probably too gradually to differentiate between last week and this week by just looking at it, I know its continually decomposing. I am quite surprised how well the colors in the flowers have held up against the weather and all the other external influences it’s endured. I think the conceptual mindset is focusing on the idea of time and what things connote or we associate or imply the passing of time. For example, if you were to look at a photo marked “Installation Documentation Week #8” and then look at another photo marked “Installation Documentation Week #9”, one would deduct or assume that the progression of time has caused change, regardless if whether or not you can actually see the physical change from one photo to the next.

PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #8

Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – I posted the photographs of my installation on my Tumblr blog, below :) My installation has been outside for about 2 months now and I am just starting to see the petals on the flowers changing and beginning to turn brown. There is virtually no water left in the jar and the stems and all the green parts of the bouquet are either at the end stages of drying out or are already completely dried out. I will say, however, I am surprised how well the physical arrangement of the piece has maintained its original form considering the weather it has endured. Although its colors and textures might be changing, the basic look of the installation has not changed all that drastically. From a conceptual standpoint, the installation has continued to be a representation of the passing of time and shows how our ideas, feelings, and memories associated with certain objects continue to exist regardless of the physical deterioration of the object itself.

PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #6

 Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – I posted the photograph of my installation piece on my tumblr blog :) There was not a whole lot of difference between this week’s update and last week’s findings. The piece itself was still on its side after falling over from the weather and its flowers and all the greenery or plant-like features have decomposed, for the most part. The new physical form (or the installation’s current physical form) is a further reiteration of the presence and passing of time as the project continues.  The physical form of the piece may be dying but the memories and feelings I associate with this piece are still just as real and vivid as the day I received the roses. PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #5

 Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – After taking my detailed documentation photos of my installation, I uploaded and posted them on my Tumblr blog. For my weekly written progress field report, I observed a lot of the same occurrences and the conditional state of the piece that have been present since the beginning of the project. However, a few new observations included the progression of deterioration of the stem and flower petals and the decreasing amount of water in the jar (which is almost all gone now). I also saw a relatively significant change in the installations’ natural environment, because the rain and windstorm nocked the actual jar and flowers (the entire piece) on its side. These observations are representative of changes that are occurring and leads one to correlate, believe, or understand the connection between change and time and that change is representative of the passing of time at a given moment.

PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #4

Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – I frequently look at or “visit” my installation because it is easily accessible to where I live/exist, and it is changing quite quickly, so I want to make sure I photograph the progress without any huge gaps or transitions. I took one of these three photos last week but decided to add it along with the two new photos I took of my installation this week. Last week's photo was inside because I had to remove it temporarily from the intended installation environment per instructions from my apartment management. I think the two sets of photos show the development or (in actuality) the deterioration of the piece as time passes. I observed that the piece is becoming increasingly delicate with virtually no water left, so, I am hoping that, as the weather gets colder and as I replace the installation back in its original environment that it will continue to hold up. Despite the change, I still think the flowers are quite beautiful. Mainly because of the ongoing relationship that they represent to me personally, but also because of the conceptual idea that they convey. The idea that the feelings we attach to objects supersede the lifespan of the material things themselves and brings to light the eternal nature of our associations and their continued existence in time as it passes and as we lose touch with the physical forms of what is important to us.

PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #3

Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – Upon visiting my installation piece, I took three detailed photographs of the current state of my installation and how it’s progressing. I have posted these images on my Tumblr site.

I observed the physical state of the flowers' form, and they are practically all dead (the leaves and stems are entirely void of life or greenery color). But the petals, however, are somewhat still intact and keeping their shape. So far, there haven’t been drastic changes in the installation or its surrounding environment, until this past Monday. I was obligated to move all of the items off of my front porch balcony (temporarily) where the piece is located, so there are no longer other objects in the environment. I'm unsure if this change is going to affect the piece, but if any of the relocated objects offered a level of shelter or protection for the installation, the work is alone for now. Petals are falling more and more around the jar, which serves as a visual representation or physical record of how the time has passed or progressed.

PROJECT 1: TUMBLR POST #2

Project 1: Weekly Photo Documentation and Field Report Upload – I have taken a detailed photo of my installation project, and I have posted them here on my Tumblr blog. There were a few things I noticed when looking at my piece, for one, almost all of the stems and leaves are now brown and crunchy (no water left in them). I also noticed some of the flowers themselves have begun to shrivel up and turning a deeper purple. Many of the flower petals have fallen off, and the water has decreased since my last report, as well. The weather, in which the project exists, is getting colder, and there is not as much sunlight as there was when the project began. None of the flowers have begun to wilt yet, and most of them still look like healthy flowers. All of these changes in the physical installation itself, again, reflect the passing of time and the seasonal changes that are occurring around the installation mark the existence of passing time, as well.
