It bugs me when people - in canon or not - act like Jace is just a pretty face with no substance behind it. The constant jokes about his book club got real tiring real fast especially when canon itself proves them wrong... and yet at the same time seems to completely ignore its own statements.

Jace is one of the characters who we see most often doing research or reading books. The moment he sees something he doesnt know he goes and tries to research it. When Clary started making new runes his first step was to take the book where they keep record of all SH runes (I forgot what it’s called) and look up the runes he didnt know. When they found Valentine’s journals and whatnot, it’s Jace who sat and read through all of them. When he’s at Magnus’s we see him surrounded by books (and cats) trying to find clues about what was going on at the time. When the Owl was going around, it’s Jace who was going through all the camera footage to see what he could find of the demon.

Yes, he can be reckless and single-minded. He does dive into danger more often than not and he likes to flirt with people but he’s not stupid or unable to read a book or something like that and I guess I wish that aspect of his character wasnt forgotten in favour of the stereotypical dumb jock cliche or whatever.

A sleepy Alec telling Magnus “come and hold me. I want you next to me” is honestly the sweetest thing. This book is going to kill me.

Petition for every time a character goes you’re Jonathan/Valentine’s son or some variation thereof, Jonathan answers it with “in the flesh” every.single.time.

Speaking of things I need from 3b (also inspired by @lynne-monstr‘s tags which are always on point tbh), I think my biggest wish is to see Magnus be the badass we know he is even without his magic.

I’ve read some great speculation/character studies about how he might feel like he’s less than he was before and not as good/powerful/competent/etc without his magic and I think that’s a very valid thing for him to go through but if we go down that path, I dont want this to be fixed simply by having Alec say something like you’re the same person with or without magic.

I want Magnus to be shown as powerful and competent and clever and handling himself just as well as he would have if he still had magic - because that’s who he is. Yes, the magic is obviously a big part of his identity but it’s not all he is and I feel like, at least for me, the most impactful way to showcase that is to, you know, actually show it. On screen. And have Magnus realise it. Realise that yes, maybe I dont have magic but I still managed to resolve this issue I ended up in the middle off. Or yes, I may not have magic but I still found a way to outsmart Iris and protect Madzie.

Magnus has been around for so long, He’s seen so many things. He’s learnt so much more. He’s known people and angels and demons. He’s a leader. He’s a politician. He’s a protector. Let him use that to his advantage. Let him be a badass all on his own. Let him get knocked down and stand back up and dust himself off and try again, And again. And again. Until he succeeds. Let him fight for himself and others. Let him be the hero of his own story.

Chairman Meow becoming Magnus’s cat by literally clinging onto him and refusing to let go when he was going to give him to some good mundane family is #mood because like I, too, would cling onto Magnus and refuse to let go if given the chance.

Magnus kicking ass and winning that training scene (and every other scene) is everything I need from 3b.

Also he looks so fucking good in his training outfit and wielding that staff like a motherfucking boss I cant

Something that’s been on my mind for a while now was why Magnus considers the accident with his step father to be the worst thing he’s ever done. The reveal of his time with Asmodeus and the kind of things they proabbly did then got me thinking why Magnus singled out that one event as opposite to any of the other stuff that Asmodeus manipulated him into doing and which clearly make Magnus furious and disgusted to think about (so we can only imagine exactly what those things were).

And then thinking some more about their confrontation scene, I finally got it. When Asmodeus tries to say that Magnus also liked what they were doing, Magnus rightfully bursts out that “he was a child”. He was just a child looking for a place to belong, for family and safety and love and Asmodeus took adventage of that vulnerability. Magnus should not be - and is not - held responsible for what his father manipulated him into doing. And Magnus seems to know this - we could argue whether he truly believes it or in his mind it’s just a convinient excuse because it’s the only way to cope with his guilt but nonetheless, the rightfully places the blame for those events on Asmodeus’s doorstep.

But with his step father, there is no such “safety net”. There was no evil demon manipulating him into doing anything. There was just Magnus and the man he thought of as his father and Magnus killed him right after his dad accused him of being a monster. At least that’s how it looks from Magnus’s POV. Now we as the audience know that Magnus is not to blame here either. He was also a child, traumatized by seeing his mother dead and discovering he’s got powers that he cannot control and then to top it all off his father comes and accuses of terrible things and tries to hurt him. He acted in completely justified self-defence and like any terrified child would do. We know that. But Magnus doesnt. He blames himself for what happened and takes full responsibility for his actions even though he shouldnt (as we saw in the scene where he told Alec about it).

And that’s why I think this event is singled out in Magnus’s mind as the worst thing he’s ever done. Because he believes he alone is the one to blame for killing his step father and that he did it without any outside influence or manipulation unlike his time with Asmodeus.
