My goals for this study year

Hey guys! This time I would like to talk with you about my goals for this study year regarding foreign languages learning (English and German). First of all, I want to communicate with foreigners, so that they and I understand each other. In addition, I wish to understand and translate books, movies, songs, interviews not only in general, but also in details. As I have already mentioned, I dream about to be a tour guide in Germany, so I want to conduct an excursion to people not only in my mother language, but in English and German too.

Frankly speaking, that isn`t enough to my arrangements of English and German well. I should watch different movies, read books, articles and so on. So I must self-cultivation to except my studying at the university. In short, I would like to share with you some information about certain materials, sites, books, lifehacks that work for me.

So, I want to talk about my favorite educational film of the German language called «Alles Gute!». The TV course of the German language «Alles Gute» is based on everyday vocabulary, it pursues the goal of teaching colloquial German. Also, sometimes I write (in English and a little bit in German) posts on Facebook and Instagram about my life events, my favorites and so on. As well, I like to sing songs with my group mates Kate and Lena in English, watch movies in English and German, because it is interesting for me to hear the original voices of actors of movies, listen and read interviews of my favorite actors and musicians.

New video! - My Sunday Study Routine

Hey everyone!! It’s been a while since I made an original post [oops] but I thought I’d make a quick post describing my weekly routine/study schedule. I’m going into my 3rd year of university as a psychology student, so most of my work at this point is reading and writing essays. Please keep that in mind when you read this because what I do works for me based on my learning style, personality, and course load. 

Planning for the week

I go through the syllabus for each class and write the readings I have to do in my planner/task list

I then go flip through the readings and estimate how much time it will take + assign days in my week to do the work

I usually break up the readings by class. approx. 2 chapters of reading a week x 3 classes = 6 chapters of reading spread over the week

Monday - Thursday

go to class/work (obviously) 

work for about 1-2 hours. Usually I read a chapter per night.  [I have a post on how I take notes/read from my textbooks here] 

If I have a midterm/final coming up, I also start making my study guides and work on a chapter or two (about one hour) 

Friday

My university doesn’t offer too many classes on Fridays. Most of the Friday classes are labs or GE lectures

I  usually don’t have Friday classes, so I treat them as my ‘me day’ 

Since most of my friends are in class, I spend my time doing things I need to do otherwise (i.e. clean my room/apartment, run errands etc)

I spend the rest of my day doing homework/studying (normally about 3 or so hours) and taking the rest of the time for myself aka netflix

I also work on big assignments such as essays and projects. 

I spend my evenings with my friends! Usually we watch a movie and hangout or go to parties

Saturday

If I wake up early, I spend the morning doing homework. Realistically, one of my friends barge in my room and drag me out of bed at noon. 

I like to do small assignments on Saturdays to keep my plans pretty flexible. I usually do small onlime discussion posts for my classes or maybe a small bit of revision here and there. 

If I have an exam the next week, I usually spend most of my Saturday reviewing for that

Again, I spend Saturday nights hanging out with my friends. We usually go out to dinner or have a potluck and then either hangout or go to a party

Sunday

Sundays are my legitimate work days. I work on big assignments and finish or review the work I did on Friday. Taking Saturday to think things over gives me a fresh perspective on what I’m working on

I work for about 3-4 hours spread out in the day.

If I have an exam that week, I spend a good amount of my day reviewing for that

I also spend an hour or so per class reviewing the material I learned in the past week

Before I go to bed, I spend some time previewing + planning for the week ahead. 

That’s basically it! This method works really well for me and since I’ve started using it, my grades have improved immensely (and it doesn’t really feel like I’m doing that much work). Obviously, everyone’s schedule is different. Play around and see what works for you!

My study routine:

2 weeks before exam = Don't study

1 week before exam = Start studying

5 days before exam = Still studying

3 days before exam = Getting tired of studying

2 days before exam = Starting to give up studying

1 day before exam = Procrastinate

Morning of the exam = Freak out and read notes OR cbf reading them
