Have any character headcannons?
Sure do! Here’s some of the ones I have for Boone and Arcade. A few of these are inspired by other people’s writing, while others are ones I came up with myself (though they may have been said before).
Boone
Boone left home and joined the NCR when he was 16. He hasn’t visited his family since Bitter Springs, and his little sister was the only one he kept contact with up until Carla died. Afterwards, he can’t bring himself to return her letters.
He can sing, and used to do so whenever Carla had a hard time getting to sleep. Though he enjoys his alone time, he may hum to himself if it’s too quiet.
Surprisingly, he doesn’t have that many scars — joining First Recon put him out of harm’s way for the most part. Any scars that he does have are ones he had before he became a sniper, or are gained during his time with the Courier.
He has a farmer’s tan.
Boone is bisexual, though it’s not something he realizes for a very, very long time, and might never accept unless the Courier helps him.
This one’s inspired by @benny-gecko-official: He knows sign language. He learned it from a deaf soldier while on tour, and a lot of First Recon knows it as well — it’s advantageous to be able to communicate complex messages silently.
Sleep comes easier to him during the day than the night, so he’s a bit of a night owl. This leads people to assume that he prefers the night, but it’s actually the opposite — the darkness and silence make his own inner demons louder. Talking a walk under the stars brings him some peace, and is the best way to kill time until he can quiet his thoughts enough to sleep.
Arcade
Arcade is a bookworm and a workaholic, and will stay up all night to finish a book or solve a problem if you let him. It’s common to find him hunched over a desk at three in the morning, surrounded by papers and research materials.
He’s trans and has top surgery scars.
Julie stuck him in the back of the Old Mormon Fort because he’s not a “people person”, and Arcade doesn’t mind — partially due to this, but also because he is deeply empathetic and hates seeing others in pain. If the Fort gets particularly busy, he’ll be out front with everyone else, though it leaves him feeling very drained.
He has anxiety. When stressed or nervous, he talks a lot to try to work through his thoughts or to stop himself from panicking completely.
Arcade blushes easily, both from embarrassment and anger. The tips of his ears turn red when he’s really mad (which is a rare sight).
He would love to learn Spanish, and might ask Raul to teach him if given the chance.
Though his workspace might appear messy or disorganized, he knows exactly where everything is and gets a little frustrated when people move things around without asking.
