Best Song: Midnight Movies [10/10]

Worst Song: My Type [8/10]

I know its pretty wild to say that the song that arguably catapulted SAINT MOTEL to the mainstream and was everywhere the summer of 2014 was the worst song on the album, but hear me out. This EP is short, with only 4 songs: My Type, Cold Cold Man, Ace in the Hole, and Midnight Movies. Three of these songs I heard on the radio, and surprisingly, the one song that never made it, I think, is the best song of the album.

Midnight Movies feels almost like a wrap-up to Voyeur, which is why I think I like it so much. It really just frames the world around the viewer as one big movie, since life is already so messy, so dramatic, and can be so entertaining. There’s something about listening to this song around 2am, late at night in college, trying to finish an assignment due the next morning, that really stuck with me and still sticks with me today. I’d say it’s my second favorite song in their entire discography.

If you’re going to listen to any of these, this is the first I’d recommend, purely because the songs are easy to get into and the entire EP is 4 songs. It’s not even 15 minutes! Just make sure you give Ace in the Hole a chance, it’s better than you think.
