Ain’t even going anon with this one. So I know QUITE a few... dozen Christians telling everyone the Covid vaccine is either the mark of the beast, or will change your DNA. Or both, mostly both. Since you are a mess student can you give me some pointers on how to refute this nonsense? People here in the southern half of the US tend to believe a lot of conspiracy theories. This one lately has been the most annoying to try to debunk.
Man girl, I’m so sorry you have to deal with that 😫. I don’t even know where to begin with this one...I unfortunately don’t have sources with me so I’m pulling this stuff out of my head as I begin.
1) The vaccine being the mark of the beast is fascinating considering how many iterations of this theory has come and gone throughout history for every kind of new development (so point this out next time for promoting self-awareness lol). My doctor uncle even mentioned it in a little small interview he had with a friend, about how people are so scared to get tracked through the vaccine, without fully realizing our own phones are already doing that exact same thing and no one complains about that. Unfortunately I’m not sure how to refute the mark of the beast notion (edit: some references now below) . It really feels like those who’ve sunk their teeth into these ideas and suckled them are so far gone, no kind of refutation is going to convince them because it requires less information and more of a heart-change. Because these folks already assume the end is nigh when Jesus himself tells us we won’t know.
2) As for the vaccine changing DNA...that....oh my gosh.
Sis, we don’t have the technology for that. - how to sum it up just in case.
What the vaccine instead does is essentially pump up your body’s immune system to fight off specific infections more easily, like getting barbels or the treadmill or buying an electric fly-swatter. It doesn’t change your genetic make-up AT ALL. How it works, basically, is that when a vaccine, whether using a weakened-living germ or dead germ enters your body, it’s not powerful enough to attack your whole body and so your immune system goes after it and can kill it easily (hence why there are occasions of side effects, because your body is reacting). When it does, it builds a kind of memory component (antibodies) specific to that germ that allows it to fight the same infection off in the future with far more efficiency and with much less harmful effects to your body. It’s the same principle that governs other vaccines like measles, mumps, as well as the flu. The effects of some vaccine sometimes don’t last as long as others, hence you may need to get booster shots (for example hepatitis, which I recently had to take in 2019 cuz my levels were low). The flu on the other hand, is taken annually because the flu virus has so many strains, it keeps mutating so the memory component your body may have built for last year’s flu strains may not work on this year’s flu strains for example.
The COVID vaccine is meant to build your body’s immunity against the virus using specific spike proteins as the key. That’s how your body will encode its memory component, using those specific parts of the virus that your immune cells will then read and react to. It is not changing your DNA, it’s giving your body the opportunity to develop and acquire the necessary weaponry to fight it off properly so that it doesn’t make you sick or kill you in the process. And that is the God-given natural process of immunity-building. If it weren’t for vaccines, we’d be contracting these otherwise deadly diseases willy-nilly, not knowing if we’ll survive them unscathed, but our bodies will do what it was designed to do to fight it off and develop the immunity anyway.
As I was writing this, I did end up with a few sources that you could take a look at, Missy.
