There is not a speck of doubt that Aung San Suu Kyi is the Mother of Myanmar. Images of the Opposition Leader are everywhere we go - from small huts to spacious lounge rooms and even for sale on t-shirts at the airport. 'She is our mother. We love her. She gave up everything for her people.' On November 8 Myanmar will hold what is hoped to be its first free and fair election in 25-years. The Burmese we meet tell us they pray the Nobel Prize winner - who spent 15 years under house arrest during military rule - will return to the fold to help lead her people, just as her father did. 'Do you like ASSK?' 'Yes!! We love her. Everyone loves her. Her father was our independence hero.' Truckloads of her NLD Party campaigners aren't afraid to show their support. They march through towns yelling into loudspeakers, waving red flags, proudly sporting party t-shirts. 'Will ASSK win the election?' 'Yes, yes. She must. Burmese people want democracy. The government is dirty. It's no good. We want change.' But military rule is not yet over. It's feared the election is taking place on the army’s terms. And with her late husband and two sons being British, ASSK is technically not allowed to be President. So, the Burmese people - and the international community - must watch and wait. _____ #myanmar #burma #mandalay #aungsansuukyi #election #burmavotes #myanmarvotes #democracy #travel #instatravel #traveling #travelling #asian #travelphotography #streetphotography #photojournalism #happy #freedom #sunshine #picoftheday #photooftheday (at Mandalay)
