John H.'s Audition Experience

I had auditioned for our director Paul before for a Friends of the Arts Christmas variety show as well as their production of Rent. I auditioned for Rhythm N' Harmony sometime in December after I auditioned for Rent. One of the members at the time, Lara, had suggested I audition for the club. I was really nervous! I knew this wouldn't be the first time I would audition for the same people, but the experience was still nerve-racking. The audition was somewhat of an informal one since the club's assigned audition dates had long since passed. Paul agreed to let me audition despite this, and I'm so glad he did! Paul announced that they would be having me audition and called me up. When I get nervous, I say some of the weirdest things imaginable. I walked up into the little semicircle choral formation the glee members had going, so there were people behind me. I turned around and remember telling the people behind me (I think I addressed the altos and sopranos), "I'm sorry you're gonna have to be staring at my ass." That was probably not the right way to go about presenting myself That was so awkward ugh. I went on with the audition feeling awkward and nervous and scared and every other feeling an auditionee feels. I sang Without You by Sam Tsui and was super flat in the chorus ugh. At this point in time I wish I had sung something more elegant like Starlit Nights or some other singer/songwriter song. Afterwards, Paul asked me to act the song out, so I sang the song lightly and in a somewhat sad tone. Then I was asked to dance the beginning of their choreography for the song Thrift Shop, which Bella showed me. I swear to god I am the stiffest stick in history ugh. I honestly tried to keep a calm demeanor despite my insides screaming. When I completed the audition, Paul had me sit next to the basses and the club went about their rehearsal. I kept to myself mostly since I was terribly scared and nervous still. I was wondering if this meant I was in or not (feeling). Finally, at the end of the rehearsal, Paul says to me, "So, John, I'll see you next rehearsal?" I was literally jumping for joy inside! My stomach was all butterflies and I was in disbelief! I didn't think I'd get in, honestly, but I'm grateful everyday that I get to work with such an honorable, beautifully talented group!

Kui's Audition Experience

So my audition experience was pretty great. I wasn't super nervous. I knew I could sing my song. I had a bunch of chill, cool guys with me to relax my mind. As relaxed as my mind was, my voice wasn't because we kept singing random songs. I tried not to sing as much because I didn't want to tire my voice. When they called me in, still wasn't nervous. Just ready to get my audition started. And the people calling me didn't pronounce my name right. It's CUU(OOH) EEE. That is how my name is pronounced. Inside, they told me to do things I figured I'd need to at least touch on to get into glee club. Then I left. The entire audition, I was thinking, "I'm doing this" and I think I was. Yeah. I'm done now.

Paula's Audition Experience

Auditioning for glee was a very nerve-wracking experience. Anxiety overwhelmed me, but when I looked at the people in the group, I saw two of my friends who were there to support me no matter how I performed. Throughout the whole audition, I was scared of the possibility of making a fool out out of myself. My friends said that I did fine, which must be somewhat true since I ended up getting accepted.

Annabel's Audition Experience

Holaaa. Well, I also auditioned during my freshmen year but I can't quite remember all the details but anyway, it was pretty nerve-wracking. During the summer before I entered high school, I went to Lincoln, Nebraska for the International Thespian Festival and competed in solo musical. That year, the glee club went to compete for the second time too but they had a different director this time and they all told me he was really strict. My bestfriend, Nikki Canape, was in the group at the time and told me that I should audition for glee when I entered high school as a freshmen and I told her I would. But watching them perform amazed me and I thought, "Damn, I don't think I'll be able to be like them." (Btw, they also won second in the nation for group musical that year in Nebraska) When I came back from the trip and 2 months later started high school, she told me to audition for glee but I was hesitant at first. When the day of audition came, I told her I was going to back out but she kept forcing me to do it and I decided that I would audition with the song "Grenade" by Bruno Mars. I seriously didn't know what to expect during auditions and it was super scary but I managed to go through it. I sang the song and acted when I was told to but when scaling came, I screwed that up BIG TIME. Believe it or not, I sucked so much at scaling and literally missed most of the notes. And not to mention, Paul (the director) even asked why I sang a guy song! To be honest, I thought I wasn't going to make it. But when the list came out, I was the happiest girl in the world at that moment I found my name on the list. I'm a junior now and hopefully *crossing fingers* have gotten better at scaling lol

Noel's Audition Experience

Hi readers! I auditioned at the end of my freshman year so I'll probably forget a few details. I'm a senior now heh. So from what I remember, a lot of my friends from my group auditioned that day so it felt good to have some support. I wasn't the first to audition but I think I was somewhere in the beginning of the list. The song I chose to sing was "Broken Vow" by Josh Groban. Honestly, I wasn't fully prepared for the song. I was so nervous! My hands and voice were shaking, my palms were sweating, just super nervous! Lol. I managed to get up to the chorus so I asked if I could sing only up to that point. Lol so after I sang, Paul asked me to continue! WTF! I'll say I was managing haha but then the worst thing ever happened. I changed pitch on the bridge! Like wtf I don't even know, it was so bad haha. I carried on anyways and yeah. Oh well. I did mention singing only up to the chorus! Haha! But yeah after that, Paul made me sing around stage which I'm assuming was to see how my stage presence was. One word: awkward. I auditioned thinking of only singing! Lol but throughout my years, I (((somehow))) learned to act and sing. But that's a different story, I digress. Anyways, yeah that was my audition experience. I was emailed somewhere during the summer that I got in and yay me. Okay that's it lol.

P.S. - fun fact: that audition was the first time I sang out loud.
