Every time we feature someone based out of San Diego, we have to mention the rarity of the tight-knit crew Lovelife and Desert Hearts have fostered. Though the scene has developed exponentially in the last few years, it’s still young. The youth of it provides an intimacy not as common in other cities nationwide. mybeatFix finally got the opportunity to experience the sparks that fly at a Desert Hearts event. Last November, we celebrated their one year anniversary in the desert, kicking up dirt and dust dancing to the likes of Marc Houle, Noir and a slew of other artists —both famous globally or just famous in San Diego. Next month, DH brings us another three-day festival, this time with none other than DJ T, Tim Green and Matthew Dekay. Through the word of other San Diegans, we discovered Marbs, a pillar of the Desert Hearts crew. The story of the Desert Hearts crew dates back to about 2010 when Marbs and Deep Jesus took up DJing on a pair of CDJ-350s. Together with Mikey Lion and his younger brother Porkchop, they started throwing small bar parties. Eventually Lee Reynolds and Christopher Kristoff came into the picture and Desert Hearts was formed. Inspired by Burning Man, the event that has fortified their group, Desert Hearts as way of life continues to turn heads in Southern California.
