A myelogram is a diagnostic tool used to determine cord compression in the potential surgical candidate. Even when the horse shows obvious compression on standing films, the myelogram is needed to show if there is more than one level of compression. Cord compression is determined by measuring the dorsal and ventral dye column in both neutral and flexed positions. Ratio measurements are made by using a special software program on each digital radiograph taken during the myelogram.

A CT Scan Myelogram is an X-ray examination of your spinal cord and spinal nerves enhanced with a dye-like solution injected into the fluid in the spinal column. Myelography can assist in diagnosing such abnormalities as spinal canal narrowing, herniated discs, and other conditions which may cause pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.

 I’m having my first one on Monday, and I’m terrified because I don’t love the idea of needles puncturing my spine whilst I remain conscious…

Also do any of y’all have accompanying vertebral fusion? Because my C3-4 are fused, and my neurosurgeon thinks that my current symptoms might be some structural degeneration as a result of this fusion :( I had my chiari decompression surgery like 13 years ago, but here we are again…
