Moody Ascension Chapter 2

AO3 can’t process my fic right now, so I’m posting chapter 2 on tumblr! Written for @tsuchakoweek!!!

Title: Moody Ascension Chapter 2 Author/s: Just me! Wordcount: 640 Prompt: Harvest Rating/Warnings: None! It takes place mostly underwater, and there’s mention of industrial fishing.

Summary: Tsuyu is in the middle of preparing for the tsunami.

The ocean was rocky, tumultuous, and still had quite a few fishing boats. Tsuyu-chan didn’t blame them, with no other competition, fishing in such bad weather would be worth it for some. It was just Tsuyu’s job to keep them safe. She dove into another huge wave. The last ship she saw was near the end of the dock, and didn’t look well-manned. It had been drifting towards the dock every so often for the past hour, then tried to power back out into the waves. Tsuyu needed to convince them to turn around, or force them to.

She liked swimming totally underwater, it was a total escape from the world above. It was even easier to spot the fishing vessel, the net was splayed out into the water like a spider’s web. Tsuyu got along well with spiders. She grabbed onto the net, then tugged it hard into the water, kicking up a storm. A dull click rattled through the net. She stopped swimming, and the net shot up into the boat. Two excited fishers blinked through the rain, then one shouted,

“What?!”

Tsuyu stated,

“It’s too dangerous to be fishing. Go back into port.” She brought out a fish, “Here. I caught a fish for you.”

One fisher nodded, the other one glared at the fish for a second. Their beady eyes were set into an orange, scaly skin. Tsuyu perched on the railing. They mumbled,

“Uh, did you need anything else?”

“Yes. You to turn the ship around.”

The orange-skinned fisher stomped towards Tsuyu, “Hey! Who do you think you are, messing with our catch, and ordering us around?” The other fisher backed up, hands up, “How about you turn around!”

“Uh, uh, that’s not a great idea!”

“I can pilot the boat for you.” Tsuyu motioned towards the net, “If you’d rather take the ride in a hammock, I can arrange that too.”

The orange-skinned fisher backed off. His buddy got into the cabin. Tsuyu nodded, turned around, then flicked her tongue into the water. She returned with another fish, and handed it to the fisher.

“Two’s better than one.”

He made a groaning noise, but didn’t protest. Tsuyu leaped back into the water.

The rush of water around her was nice and comforting. She could stay underwater as long as she wanted, and she was going to take a short break. While she trailed the boat to make sure it went into port, of course. She pulled her phone out, and checked out her notifications. There were two texts from the most wonderful person floating around this planet.

Ochako had taken a picture of her floating above the city, and captioned it with ‘Wish you were here! <3’. Tsuyu immediately opened her own camera to return the favour. She closed her eyes beforehand so the flash wouldn’t blind her. Underwater pictures still weren’t easy. She only took pictures for Ochako, so she didn’t have much practice. This one looked fine, so she sent it, and added, ‘I’m available later this evening. From 7 to 10pm. 🐸’. Ochako had sent her message a few hours ago, there was no way she’d be available for a call now. Tsuyu liked to at least hear her voice once a week. It might not happen at this rate. She didn’t mind, it was part of being such famous and widely-known heros. It was part of helping so many people.

She checked her other notifications. There were a few forwarded emails she’d need to read later, and two voicemails. The groupchat for her firm was quiet, just two interns sharing memes. Half of them involved frogs. Tsuyu liked all of them.

The boat she had be tailing actually went into the harbour, no further encouragement needed. That’d free her up for more pressing issues. She swam  up to the surface.
