Singapore-Bike Ride to the Water Front
Singapore has a very cool bike sharing system. There are hundreds of orange, yellow and silver bikes scattered all over the city. All you have to do is download one of the apps- Ofo or Mobike.
Then you approach any bike that is not actively being ridden by a person and unlock it with your app and away you go! It charges by the hour….1.50 per hour. Not bad at all. And often times better than taking the bus! The only downside is that when you leave your bike outside to go into a store, it might not be there when you get back. There’s no real way to “save” the bike. The other downside for the residents of Singapore is that these bikes are literally everywhere and often discarded in an unruly, unsightly fashion.
The Shipyard is in the Sembawang area of Singapore, Alex’s AirBnB was also in the Sembawang/ Woodlands area. This is not the most interesting area- it is mostly where the shipyard workers reside ( no surprise) but you can go down to the waterfront and look at Malaysia.
So we snagged some Ofo bikes and rode the 10min from the Airbnb to the waterfront! It goes through this really nice park and down a long pier. On the other side of the water is Malaysia’s skyline! If we had more days off we would’ve gone to visit.
Singapore used to be a part of Malaysia but the leader of Singapore was doing such an amazing job that Malaysia basically gave him Singapore as a separate country to run so that he didn’t take over Malaysia. Now it’s a really successful little country!
The waterfront is beautiful! Especially in the fading light. And there’s a little diner-style restaurant
