Lost Dog

Her chest felt like it was ready to burst. The whole plan she'd had was a blur now, lost in the execution. Her cage was left open, he'd figure it out any second now and then she'd really be in trouble. Hazard forced herself to keep running, bare feet slapping the dirt as she pushed her way through the narrow corridors of the underground, ignoring the protests of Gastowners she shoved, trying to keep her head down before anyone recognized her.
Everyone had seen her on display by now, led around by Scrotus on a chain like a pet, but she could hope they'd remained far enough away to make her features vague and blurry to the people she was passing now. She'd rubbed her face, trying to smear away her makeup, to disguise herself further, but really, the only thing that could save her at this point was getting out of town, finding a way to sneak past the Jaw. Once Scrotus realized she was missing, everyone in Gastown would be on alert and looking for her.
She turned a corner, and suddenly her feet were flying out from under her, landing her in a heap on the ground. She groaned, wheezing and puffing, and slowly lifted herself back up. Her palms were scraped, one knee ripped and bleeding. What had she tripped over? Did she even want to know?
