Getting out of bed and shutting the monitor off, he regretfully made his way to the baby room with a sigh, walking over to the crib and looking over to their small daughter, Sadie Knight, and ran a hand through his hair before picking her up.
“Hey there,” he whispered, bouncing the wailing baby slightly as he rocked back and forth. “What’s wrong? It’s ok,” he kissed her small, golden tufted head, making his way over to the large chair that Augustine insisted was the best thing in the room, rocking slightly in it as he held Sadie close to his chest.
Slowly as he rocked in the chair, his child began to quiet down, hiccupping into his chest, her little fists grabbing at his bare chest, finally just peeking up at him and patting his lips impatiently. He chuckled, kissing her small fingers carefully. “All better now? You going to go to sleep and let me get back to your mommy now?”
“Aw, we both know by now that’s too easy,” he glanced up to find Augustine standing sleepily in the door, dressed in one of his shirts as she leaned against the door frame. “We’ve had the little darling for six months, we should have learned by now.”
He chuckled as she made her way over to him, softly passing off the baby to her. “Hey darling,” Augustine murmured, sitting down in Jacob’s lap as he wrapped his arms around her waist. “Waking up daddy again? Mean.”
“You do the same thing,” Jacob chuckled, pressing a kiss to the back of her neck.
“Yeah, but usually for more fun things than this.”
He laughed, but quickly quieted, not wanting to make Sadie fuss. The parents sat quietly together, Augustine stroking their baby’s back comfortingly, Jacob just holding them both close to him. Eventually Sadie was breathing softly against her mother, and Augustine carefully got up and laid her back in her cradle, covering her with a blanket.
“There, crisis averted.” She turned to smile at Jacob, who smiled back, pulling her close as they quietly tip toed out of the baby room.
“Back to bed, or,” he grinned as Augustine raised her eyebrow at him, shaking her head.
“It’s three in the morning, we need sleep,” she pointed out, getting to their bedroom and pulling him down with her onto the bed.
“Yeah, but we’re already awake. Why not take advantage?”
“That’s how we got Sadie in the first place,” she pointed out as he started kissing her neck, the sigh from her lips telling him that she wasn’t saying no.
“Hm, true, but it’s not like we regret it.”
She laughed. “No, no we don’t. Although, I don’t want to have another one anytime soon.”
He stopped kissing her, moving to look at her. “Does that mean you want another in the future?”
She crinkled her nose, shrugging. “As much as I love her… I don’t think I’d survive another one. Let’s just get our family right now before we talk about it. When we start talking about things, they end up happening anyways.”
He laughed, kissing her softly. “True. Now about going to sleep…”
They laughed together quietly as they mingled in bed, keeping any noise to a minimum to not wake the sleeping baby in the next room.
