i can definitely see the potential there, but i'm so just taken by the mental image of niko straddling dimitri while he's beating the shit out of him-- like. dimitri looking up at niko, glasses askew, blood all over his face, and niko staring down at him.

i wouldn't consider them a ship personally, but i like how they're mirror images of each other. two broken people who do things without consideration for those around them, driven by the single need to see a deep-planted purpose within them to the very end.

a few points in favor of beria as "high functioning psychopath" (really just means that the mix of personality traits + low/no affective empathy he got were conducive to the environment) are definitely his ability to build a political machine within the caucasian nkvd, his extraordinary capacity for work, the whole poisoning lakoba thing (and also an attempt on sergo possibly), at the same time somehow maintaining a happy marriage and being a good dad to sergo beria and treating his scientists well enough that they bothered to get his family out of prison after he himself got got.

also the sycophantic behavior, while making fun of stalin behind his back- very conscious and purposeful

there was also that one interrogation that anna larina recounts with him, beria seemed like he wanted to find an excuse to spare her and offered her an out, whether it was out of genuine kindness or to get an asset is not clear. beria seems to have genuinely underestimated how much she loved bukharin compared to the discomfort of spending time in the gulags

not really smoking guns in the same way that stalin has smoking artillery for autism but i can see it.

off the top of my head, i believe that dzerzhinsky supported stalin for the sake of party unity rather than for personal friendship but they appeared to have civil relations (same with menzhinsky & stalin) and i would have to double check on points of disagreement, theoretically and politically

also fun fact stalin wasn't involved in the decision to embalm lenin, it was felix who was tentatively in favor and klim who opposed it

francis is probably my favorite mcreary bc of how shitty he is and how much he fits into my favorite category of character of bastard cop :) (and he ties into my other favorite category of irish + cop + green color scheme)

oh man, francis. shit. i love that he tried to be a priest first, then decided to be a cop, like okay the two worst professions in the world? in a better world he'd probably have been the corrupt cop but for his family, like a direct connection to the LCPD. but francis is amazingly selfish and his own moral code is so twisted that no one really benefits from it but himself.
