in other news my so far consensus on fionna and cake s2 is that ive accepted that the show is just a fundamentally different beast from what i was hoping it to be (s2e1 makes it clear from the get-go its completely leaned into the tone of s1e9+10) so im happy there were still elements about it i still managed to find compelling. that being said i think the reason so many plot and character beats tend to be fumbled/underutilized this season is because the material its working with just has too conceptually weak of a foundation + too restrictive of a structure (narratives centered on deconstruction work better with 10 seasons of buildup as opposed to 19 episodes) to expand on its core ideas in a way that feels impactful. also i hate the pink thing
