The bite had been bothering him since it happened a few days ago, but Chase had been trying to ignore it in favor of focusing entirely on Jolene now that Waylon was gone and she had a chance to recover from what he'd been doing to her. Keeping it hidden hadn't been the easiest task. Not when the bandage on his hand was immediately noticeable, but he'd made excuses when asked and claimed that he'd accidentally caught himself with a knife while making food. Chase wouldn't be able to lie forever, though. Not when he'd start showing symptoms sooner or later, especially with the next full moon less than two weeks away, and he'd already started feeling achey and feverish.
"Just 'cause I'm human doesn't mean you should try sneakin' up on me, you know that right?"
Myra knew he would notice her sooner rather than later, but she was doing this mostly as a favor to Eva. The boy was close to Jolene and no one had been able to get a straight answer about what had happened when Jolene seized, but Myra could read blood like a book. It was part of the reason she had been put to work in the medical rooms to begin with.
Still, his words had her lofting a brow as she took a drag on the cigarette dangling between her fingers, smoke pouring from her lips when she opened her mouth to speak.
"What makes you so sure you're human anymore?"
