"Master, it has been a long time, hasn't it?"
Months.
It had been months since Genji had disappeared. The first, Zenyatta had looked for him like a man posessed. The second, he had started looking less, slowly accepting that his student might’ve gone his own way. The third, when still having no news of him, he had stopped looking, but had kept his hopes up, sometimes still sending a message to Genji’s phone, in the hopes of getting a response. The fifth, he had left Overwatch, returning to his travels, and eventually ending up back in Nepal, back at the monastery.
The sixth, even though still heartbroken, he had accepted that Genji was gone.
So to see his student alive and, well, not that well but at least alive, standing in front of the steps of the monastery had the omnic monk dropping the broom he was using to sweep the stairs with.
“Genji?”
His voice was soft, sounding almost broken as he walked down the steps of the monastery, towards the cyborg. He halted when he was in front of him, giving the man some personal space, but close enough to reach out to him. Not touching him yet, his hand stilling in the air.
“...You are real.” He eventually manages to say, unable to find any words at all.
