Mysterry Tour of Thailand - Sunday 24th November 2013
Our 9 am alarm sounded and up we got going off to breakfast, back to our room and a quick get ready for our day out. At 10.15 am we got a phone call from reception advising us that our 10.30 limousine had arrived to take us to Sriracha Tiger Zoo.
The weather was very wet today and fortunately our fabulous hotel provided the loan of umbrella’s free of charge, so we made full use of this option. The drive was about 45 minutes, in the pouring rain. We arrived to the Zoo and not long afterwards the rained ceased. Our first stop was to visit the elephant show, which was very entertaining.
The elephants were very talented being able to put basket-balls though nets, put their feet on people who were lying down without crushing them. They took tips from people passing the money to their trainers.
Next we went to see the Tigers, you paid 100 bht and went into their cage and had a pic taken with them. The trainer was careful to keep the tigers mouth away from you.
We wandered down to the baby tigers next who were incredibly sweet, here you paid 150 baht and got to hold the tiger, this included a framed picture the zoo took. Not bad for £3.
We bought some milk to feed the goats who proved to be very greedy. That was gone in seconds. We spent just over two hours there and that was enough to be honest. At 495 baht to get in the price was pretty fair at about a tenner.
Our limo driver located us. Pointed the car towards Pattaya and put his foot down. We were going to see Tiffany’s Show this evening so we settled on a late lunch at the little Italian Restaurant up the road from the Baan Souy. This was lovely and very reasonably priced.
At 6.15 pm we got a call from reception to let us know the hotel’s tuktuk was ready and waiting to take us over to Tiffany’s. Traffic was busy but that’s normal between about 4 pm -7 pm for this place.
The Tiffany’s show was fabulous, amazing costumes, great dancing and production with people being flown in from the gods and brilliant scenery. The show lasts about 1 ½ hours and again this place is a good price at 1000 baht each considering the standard of the show.
I recognised one of the male dancers to be the same as one of the ones from the Castro Bar. Brian didn’t believe me until I pointed him out on our next visit.
No photo’s were allowed inside the Tiffany's Theatre but there's one of me waiting to go inside.
In our countdown to Thailand Brian and myself had been avidly watching a series called Ladyboys on Pick TV – this follows the lives of a number of different Ladyboys. One of the Ladyboys called Paeng met an English guy called Scott and he moved out to Thailand to be with her. They have bought or leased a bar, we found the address on the tiniter-web so decided to go on the hunt for it.
Sensations Bar, Action Street! We thought the easiest way would be to hop on the back of a couple of motorbike taxi’s, the price was agreed at 100 baht each which is quite steep for one of those, but we didn’t know just how far it was. We arrived in the vicinity of Action Street and we dropped outside a bar that they assured us was Sensations, we paid the drivers who swiftly disappeared (not surprisingly as we were not at the right place). I spoke to the rather hefty looking door lady who informed me that it was a long way up the road and too far to walk. We hailed a passing baht bus and hopped on in a leap of faith that we may stumble across the place. We both took a look out spot on each side of the baht bus and as luck would have it, I spotted a lit sign over a side street called Action Street, we still didn’t know if we were right but stopped the bus anyway, paying the extortionate 10 baht each to the driver.
We wandered into this complex with numerous open air bars with just a roof over them, it was kind of like a market however all the premises were these car-port like structures with a bar situated in the middle and stools around the bar. We located Sensations Bar and was excited to see Paeng looking even prettier in real life than when we had seen her on Ladyboys TV. We had a couple of drinks here and got our photos taken with Paeng.
After leaving Sensations it dawned on us that we hadn’t eaten and was very hungry as we wandered along the road we stumbled across a street food stall and ordered a selection of things, this particular stall was actually attached to a motorcycle side car with a barbeque trough on the end where the food was reheated for you. We got our dinner and set off to find somewhere to sit down and eat it, as look had it about 100 yards down the road was a café that was closed for the evening so we borrowed a table and began our meal. A man then came up and started looking through some of the locked cupboards, obviously some link to the café he asked if we would like to buy some drinks from him, so we got a couple of bottles of water. He asked us if we would be so kind as to clear our table and throw the rubbish away or the urban wildlife would come and make a mess. We were more than happy to this and were just grateful he didn’t tell us to sling our hook.
Dinner finished we set off to look for a motorbike taxi, we asked for Boystown but the riders looked confused so I asked that they take us to Walking Street as I knew this was just around the corner, the bikes that Brian and myself were on got separated and I was a little worried for a while, however we ended up at the same place fortunately. We headed around the corner to have a few drinks in Boystown, we watched the show in Castro’s Bar and chatted with Dale.
It must have been around 1am when we got the Baht Bus back towards the Baan Souy, on the bus it was a tight squeeze and I ended up squashed up against a sexy Russian, he was very sweet and we chatted as best we could in his broken English – not a criticism as I speak no Russian! We neared Soi 15 where the hotel is and pressed the bell to stop the bus. I took my chance to swoop in and kissed the older lady who looked like the sexy Russians mother or aunt on her cheek, just to give me the excuse to kiss him, I kissed him on both cheeks (his face, naughty) letting him think it was a European thing, lol, he smiled sweetly and was looking very friendly but unfortunately stayed on the bus.
Brian and I paid our 10 baht each and walked down to the hotel, a brief chat with the sweet night receptionist before up to bed.
