45 Character Dev. Questions - Veronica

Does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with? Veronica is a single child and although she has a few cousins, she isn’t really close to them.

What is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like? Their relationship is a good one! Her mother is a reasonable person who is also very supportive of her. Veronica actually kind of takes after her, although she is far more stoic and emotionally detached than her mother.

What is/was your character’s relationship with their father like? Also a good relationship! They’re not too alike, as her father is actually more of a goof, but she’s still very fond of him. Sometimes, she does get a bit exasperated at him, but that’s family for you!

Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know? Yes, but that is spoiler territory. :’3  It’s an aspect that never really got out public yet... subtly hinted at, yeah, but that’s about it.

On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets? Some money, her bus ticket, her old compass, her house key and ever since that fateful day at the castle, she usually carries a knife with her too - for self-defense purposes.

Does your character have recurring themes in their dreams? Not really - she doesn’t even dream all that often.

Does your character have recurring themes in their nightmares? Since that fateful day(tm), bloody katanas and impalement do appear more often than beforehand, but otherwise, it’s the same as with dreams.

Has your character ever fired a gun? If so, what was their first target? She never shot a gun before, but she certainly did stab a man. :3

Is your character’s current socioeconomic status different than it was when they were growing up? No, it’s still the same.

Does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing? Veronica actually doesn’t mind either way... though she might be more inclined with more clothing?

In what situation was your character the most afraid they’ve ever been? When the tomb raider was about to murder her best friend - she’s been scared to shit back then.

In what situation was your character the most calm they’ve ever been? Veronica is constantly calm, so... *shrug*

Is your character bothered by the sight of blood? If so, in what way? No, she isn’t, even after the accidental manslaughter.

Does your character remember names or faces easier? She probably remembers names more easier.

Is your character preoccupied with money or material possession? Why or why not? If you want to live a comfortable life, then you need money. Past that however, Veronica isn’t too invested in money itself and material possessions... Well, she has a few of them and if it’s something tied to myths or archaeology, then she loves having it - especially old artifacts. Otherwise, she’s pretty neutral about it.

Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success? Weirdly enough, happiness. Then again, Veronica has been pretty much successful all her life and she kind of grew tired of it. Not that she dislikes it to the point where she wants to fall entirely flat, but... yeah.

What was your character’s favorite toy as a child? Probably some kind of toy that demands focus, like a kendama.

Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others? Definitely wisdom.

What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before? Veronica is too apathetic around those around her bar very few exceptions. So although she was actually very well liked in middle school and her first high school years, she always maintained some kind of distance towards her fellow peers. It’s not because she’s scared to be hurt or anything, she just... doesn’t see much of a reason to pursue a relation unless they really intrigue her.

In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism? Veronica will compare herself to others in various ways, be it how they handle a certain situation or what kind of ideologies they have. It’s more about mere observation than actual self-validation or self-criticism.

If something tragic or negative happens to your character, do they believe they may have caused or deserved it, or are they quick to blame others? Veronica will look at the situation at hand as rationally as she can. So if she understands that some of her actions lead to the negative thing, then she’ll admit that she caused it. However, if she knows that someone else is at fault, then she’ll definitely blame it on them.

What does your character like in other people? She likes it when they’re entertaining in their own right. It would certainly help if they’re witty and intelligent, as well as able to be rational about something. Furthermore, she’ll appreciate them if they can give her space if she needs it and if they respect her privacy.

What does your character dislike in other people? She dislikes people who are stubbornly set in their own views and condemn everything around them whilst thinking that their opinion is the one and only truth. She doesn’t like it when people are narrow-minded and if they’re constantly led by emotions, then it irks her. She will like people even less so if they’re loud and don’t respect her privacy.

How quick is your character to trust someone else? Veronica trusts only a selective few of individuals - her trust is incredibly hard to gain.

How quick is your character to suspect someone else? Does this change if they are close with that person? Veronica is quick to be suspicious of others - even if she’s close to them, although not as quickly. Still, if she has valid reasons to be suspicious, then she’ll go for it.

How does your character behave around children? Veronica tolerates children, but will try to ignore them if possible. She just doesn’t like how loud and rowdy kids can be.

How does your character normally deal with confrontation? Veronica will stand her ground for sure. She isn’t afraid of confrontation in the least and actually prefers it if people voice their complaints instead of keeping it to themselves and fake friendliness.

How quick or slow is your character to resort to physical violence in a confrontation? Unless it’s absolutely unavoidable, then she’ll refrain from using violence. However, if the other party starts to assault her, then she’ll not hesitate to fight back with everything that she has.

What did your character dream of being or doing as a child? Did that dream come true? Veronica wanted to be an archaeologist, just like her mother and best friend! However, as a kid, she did think that being an archaeologist also meant that you’re essentially a traveling explorer who finds the most rad things ever.

What does your character find repulsive or disgusting? Unnecessary violence, disrespecting people’s (and especially her own) privacy, hypocrites... There’s probably a bit more, but I’ll leave it at that. Well, I could add something else, but again, that’s spoilers.

Describe a scenario in which your character feels most comfortable. Reading a book in a tranquil place. Or spending time with her best friend by doing archaeological activities together. Or just spend time together however, actually.

Describe a scenario in which your character feels most uncomfortable. A place where its loud. Surrounded by people whom she dislikes, but can’t escape.

In the face of criticism, is your character defensive, self-deprecating, or willing to improve? If the criticism is valid, then Veronica will strife to improve. However, if she deems it not true or if it is voiced flat out insulting, then she’ll be either defensive or simply ignore it altogether.

Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method? First, Veronica would try to maybe keep at the solution/method, but tweek it the second time, before moving on to another solution altogether.

How does your character behave around people they like? Although still remaining overall reserved, she’s more likely to talk amiably to the people she’s fond of. You’ll see her smiling more often, even chuckling when she finds something entertaining. One can say that she’s definitely getting more kinder the closer she is to someone, even if she’s somewhat socially awkward, in a sense.

How does your character behave around people they dislike? She either tries to ignore them to the best to her abilities, remain apathetic towards them or actually make quaps at them, so she can be a bit smug.

Is your character more concerned with defending their honor, or protecting their status? Veronica is a prideful one, so she would defend her honor.

Is your character more likely to remove a problem/threat, or remove themselves from a problem/threat? Both are true to her - if she can avoid a problem/threat, then she’ll go that route. However, if she can’t avoid it anymore, then she’ll definitely try and remove it.

Has your character ever been bitten by an animal? How were they affected (or unaffected)? Veronica might’ve been bitten by a small kitten once, but it never affected her. She probably even forgot all about it already.

How does your character treat people in service jobs? Veronica simply views them as people who are doing their job, so she’ll treat them with basic respect. She’ll say hello, make necessary exchanges, thank them and then go. Veronica also gives waiters tips - they’re usually not much, like 1-5 € tops.

Does your character feel that they deserve to have what they want, whether it be material or abstract, or do they feel they must earn it first? It’s the latter.

Has your character ever had a parental figure who was not related to them? Kind of, but that's all I can say rn.

Has your character ever had a dependent figure who was not related to them? See above.

How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it? Somewhat difficult. She usually expresses her affections more subtly and through actions rather than words. As for the second question - she certainly can, but the likelihood of that ever happening is nigh to zero.

What does your character believe will happen to them after they die? Does this belief scare them? Veronica believes that she'll simply cease to exist and that's it. She doesn't find the fact really scary, she's already accepted it.

30 Veronica Facts

Might as well jump on this train~!

Despite wearing that hat of hers, Veronica isn’t a big pirate fan. They only get interesting once mythology is involved (so normally when she’s currently reading up mermaids and selkies tales f.e.).

It’s probably obvious enough, but red is Veronica’s favourite color.

Veronica is really interested in archaeology! She loves learning about the past, be it their culture, their customs, their architecture or what knowledge they had back then. Of course, this includes myths as well!

Speaking of, she possesses a few antiques herself! Veronica likes that old aesthetic(TM) and a little bit of history is always welcome in her room.

She carries an old compass around her at all times. It also works just fine, so if the class is ever lost, then you will at least know where north from south is!

Veronica likes instrumental music, so she’s definitely fond of classical music. It’s not like as if she dislikes singers, but you can work better when there’s no voice distracting you from work.

But her real passion lies in irish music. Goddamn, does she love irish music.

On the other hand, Veronica can’t stand it when there’s screaming involved in a song. In her opinion, that isn’t singing in the least, so she tends to avoid the metal genre.

As you’ve already seen for herself, Veronica’s art is... adventurous to put it nicely. It’s actually even worse than what I’ve drawn, simply because I’m too unskilled to be this bad... It also doesn’t help that she thinks that her art style is unique and thus, certainly interesting.

Aside from art class, Veronica does actually very well in school! She has excellent grades, especially in everything history and linguistic related.

Speaking of linguistics, Veronica is fluent in Japanese, English and Italian! She possesses advanced knowledge in Latin, Old Egyptian and Old Norse. She also has basic skills in german, chinese, spanish and some african languages (because there’s like THOUSANDS of them) - and when I say basic, I mean it. If she wants to read about myths that aren’t in her language, she’ll usually consult a translator who’ll translate it into a language she is fluent in.

Veronica is actually half-japanese and half-italian! That’s the reason why she’s so fluent in italian, too.

It’s thanks to her dad that she got the name Veronica. Alright, so hear me out on this one; both of her parents were arguing about their child’s name. They didn’t know Veronica’s biological gender yet, because they wanted to keep it as a surprise for themselves. Then, they made a bet - if it’s gonna be a girl, her father can decide, but if it’s a boy, her mother can choose instead. However, they also made sure that the other one would at least like the name, so they brainstormed and in the end, it was between two names; Veronica and Akira. As we all know already, we know which one was the winner of the bet.

Veronica is also a single child. She also never really wished for siblings...

She’s actually a good cook, but finds the task itself to be rather tiring. 

Veronica would actually like to braid her hair more often, but ends up tieing it into a simple ponytail anyway. The reason? It’s simply quicker to do.

Oh yeah and her hair is really silky and soft... Even though she doesn’t pay extra attention to it, she was just born with fabulous hair.

Our dear, little mythologist doesn’t really keep up with memes, so if you’d shove a picture of rare pepe into her face, she’d simply raise an eyebrow at you and ask what the meaning of this is. I mean, she knows some memes, but... not a lot.

If Veronica uses her computer, it’s mostly for her work. Leave searching stuff up to her, she has a very keen sense of what information can be trusted and which not.

However, she also used her computer to play some visual novels... Or puzzle games. So Zero Escape, Professor Layton and similar games? It’s likely that she played them when she was bored enough to give it a try.

(TW: Unreality???) Veronica is an atheist. She doesn’t believe in an afterlife, even though myths often tell about that being a thing. It’s not like as if she’s opposed to the idea, but it’s better to keep your expecations low - it’s more likely that you simply cease to exist once you finally kick the bucket.

She hates lemons. She fucking hates lemons.

Alright, so Veronica isn’t the biggest animal lover, but she’s fond of felines, especially the panther.

Her zodiac sign is Leo! (Can you tell I’m already drawing at straws here.)

Veronica would like to travel the world once, but mainly to visit all wonder of the worlds and lots of ruins, too. Machu Picchu is high on her vaccation list! Thanks Veronica.

Veronica is a good dancer! She likes to dance Flamenco and Samba.

When there’s a festival around - like the Summer Festival or New Year’s event -, you can count on Veronica being clothed in tradional clothing. She’s gonna wear a yukata or kimono without fail, because she thinks they’re pretty and once in a while, it’s alright if aesthetic goes over how practical a clothing is.

Sometimes, Veronica likes to take a stroll around a quiet place, like a park or a forest... It just keeps her calm and she appreciates the tranquility.

She likes stars more than the moon.

The sound of light rain hitting against windows or rooftops is very comforting to her.
