My Thoughts So Far.
At this moment my thoughts are focussed on creating a space where Mancunian people can learn and discover Manchester's boxing past. This is an element of Mancunian history which I feel is gradually being forgotten I want to reignite the passion which the city had for this sport and provide a space where a new generation of boxing legends can be nurtured.
After my first tutorial I decided that I wanted to move away from my idea of the Boxing Museum and move towards a Boxing club. I felt that the space could be better used as a boxing club which will serve the community and also have the capacity to hold live boxing matches.I want my space to show the art and skill of boxing rather than the violence associated with the sport.
My Thoughts So Far.
I want the interior of my space to instil a memorable experience of my urban farm. I want to make the experience as interesting and exciting as this will only encourage the children to want to learn more. I think I would like to incorporate chain reaction mechanisms into my design as they would help tell the cycle of products for example milk, in an exciting and unusual way.
My Thoughts So Far.
After researching into Scuttlers, I discovered that when the Salford Lads Club opened in 1903 the Scuttling gangs diminished. On the opening night of Salford Lads Club over 300 boys turned up, the club was a huge success however in recent years lads clubs around the country have been unable to captivate an an audience as notorious as the Scuttlers. During the 1900s children relied upon the funding of local charities to give them the opportunities to escape from the humdrum of 19th century city life.
From my research I discovered that there are many parallels between the youths of the 19th century and the present day. I found this quite shocking as we are supposed to be able to deal with social issues as we have more understanding in how to prevent such problems occurring. However many children who live in inner city impoverished areas still today have not experienced aspects of country life which other children take for granted.
Instead of taking people out of the city to the countryside ... can I bring a piece of the countryside to the people in the city?
