It’s a tropical fruit sensation
You know that feeling when it's a hot summer’s day and all you want is a nice refreshing glass of wine. So you follow Whyne about Wine's instructions to choose a wine, proudly and confidently picked one with an unusual name and/or interesting label, disregarding the type of grape you pop it into the fridge (if not chilled already) and wait in anticipation for the cool crisp refreshment you know is coming. Well this week that didn't go exactly as planned. After pouring a generously sized glass, after all why have a sip when you can gulp? I took a mouthful of what I was expecting to be delightful and refreshing and instead greated the wine with a "gulp" "bluegh" as I got whacked on the back of the head by a kiwi fruit. Yes my friends, the gift of a Southern Hemisphere Savignon Blanc - a cocktail of luscious tropical fruit. I dare you to tell me you've never had a wine where after a sip of gulp you’ve come away feeling like you’ve been mugged by a pineapple, kiwi and melon all at once. The aggression of four of your five a day! This taste sensation my friends is typical of Sauvignon Blanc more so if it’s from the Southern Hemisphere (Australia and South Africa in particular). It's almost like the wine loves the heat and sunshine and spends that time having a massive fruit cocktail party while it matures. Will I tip it out? Hell no! I may not always like being assaulted by a tropical fruit basket but it makes an interesting change from the norm and gets in four of my five a day all in one glass. Awesome!
Tenacity.
First week of school is over and I can't say I am not nervous about putting my wine course on the back burner hen my other classes get tough but I am going to be tenacious about my postings. I was doing my first reading assignment for the wine course and I had to share a little something of what I found, which I believe will help with my purpose of this blog.
Remembering wines.
First you have to start with capturing the odors of the wine. Then you have to encode them into your brain so that the message details an elaborate description of remembering the wine, being that of a symbol, a story, or a feeling. It is your relationship to the wine and when you taste it again you won't be able to help but remember that same memory you felt the first time you had the wine.
Drink up.
