Ohmygod I just love Si Putih sooooo much. The best book in the whole series, even though it's a spinoff.
N-ou is aroace and a he/they nb in my mind and no one can change it. I mean, my country is pretty anti-lgbt so obviously not gonna be canon but-
Uncomfortable when people ask abt romantic partner? Check. Uncomfortable when people offer their daughters for him to marry? Check. Annoyed when people laugh at him because of his lack of romantic/sexual partner? Check. Doesn't think about it at all when not brought up? Check. Loyal animal companion? Fuckin check.
Also hey he's been adventuring with only their cat for five years looking for their parents. No one's gonna criticize their gender and preferences damnit.
