Whumptober 2023 : day 2
No. 2: “I’ll call out your name, but you won’t call back.”
Delirium
The Rattles. It started with a cold, sneezing and chills. Then the fever rose, intense, brutal. Taliesin was hot but felt so cold. His eyes half-closed, he couldn't put two coherent thoughts together. Bedridden in tavern's bed, the room seemed to spin on its axis. He was delirious. The fever had taken possession of his mind. He seemed to see shadows moving without knowing if they were real. He heard distant voices that he couldn't recognize, and his own voice was nothing more than a low, hoarse croaking rambling about meaningless things, echoed by the sound of his teeth chattering. “They don’t care about you.”
He felt so different from the others. Everyone was more or less used to this life on the roads, without knowing what the next day would bring. No doubt they didn't care about him. He was, after all, just a milkdrinker: weak, and afraid of all the dangers of that kind of life. He regretted having asked this groupe to take him. Only his gold interested them, Lucien was sure of it. He felt so worthless, incapable of supporting this harsh life, like a ball and chain his companions were dragging around. They didn't care about him, Lucien was sure of it. (104)
n.2
Days dragged on. Or did they go to fast. I don't know really. I know i wished the summer to be over, but sometimes i wanted a moment to last forever.
When i stood on the wood path looking at the river below me, the wind made everything around me sway ever so slightly. In that moment, caught betwen bird song, everything was quiet. Everything but the river. The moment felt like an eternity and i wish i stayed there. But birds called again and the moment was lost. I continued on, like i didn't die in that moment, like i didn't leave my soul behind to enjoy a never ending summer, without dread looming over it.

maybe it’s something ever teenager goes through, or maybe it’s just me, but reality seems really far away recently. I have minimal recollection of my childhood and the person I was growing up, but I also can’t imagine myself at a time any later than now. Everything just kinda feels like a massive dream that I’ve been stuck in for far too long.
