Goku really isn't one to put fighting first as much as he used to. His years being dead gave him the perspective that beating stronger opponents isn't always the wisest option even if it's what he'd like deep down. In his later years he's much more concerned with helping the younger generations come into their own as protectors of the world in their own right... and get a good fight in if he can.

To a degree yeah, I've outlined it in bits on here already but I kinda play fast and loose with Super.
